Although Africa produces only a fraction of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, Africans bear an exceptionally heavy burden from climate change, according to the World Meteorological Organization.

And adapting to it will cost sub-Saharan Africa $30 billion to $50 billion annually over the next decade, or 2 to 3 percent of the region’s gross domestic product, it said.

“The impact of climate change is what we’re witnessing right now,” said Olasunkanmi Okunola, a scientist whose study focuses on flood risk management and climate adaptation. “There’s no way we can prevent major disasters from happening, but there are steps we can take to lessen the effect.”

I recommend taking three actions:

  • Check your voter registration — a key part of the Republican approach has been messing with those
  • Volunteer — getting out and talking to people makes a world of difference
  • Donate — it takes money to run ads and coordinate groups of volunteers

It's a gift link. No paywall for 30 days, aside from a quite small chunk of people who have done something unusual to break gift links.

All it takes is a Court and a Republican-majority Congress that go along, and it's very clear that they're willing to do so if he asks.

There are different forms of dictatorship. I'm being clear about which one he's taking us to — most Americans don't have the language to describe it as such.

Basically, Minnesota governor Tim Walz started using it a while back, and people loosely affiliated with the Harris campaign realized how powerful it was after the couch memes took off.

Not seeing it here. Common reasons for hitting one on a gift link are:

  • Disabling Javascript
  • Running a browser extension which strips off the gift token
  • Having a device which needs a reboot

From the article, it sounds like they have video of him walking towards the switch, running back, and then setting up to video the area. They don't have him actually tampering with the switch

They both do some really good reporting, and are paid by the oil industry to break public support for effective decarbonization.

Different denominations prefer different translations. They're using something fairly close to the King James text:

7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
