I definitely want to go at some point. I have some friends that have been to the one in Denver and really liked it.
The voting process was young. It probably wasn't great. It might have even been a "shitshow." But it was still good enough to agree on defederating a malicious instance.
I do not believe that free speech is compatible with social media. None of the social media platforms are public squares. They are all private. For instance, sh.itjust.works has the “no bigotry” and “be respectful” rules which disqualify us from being a free speech platform. Doxxing is, in and of itself, not illegal, and yet it's not allowed even on Twitter. Most places are not friendly to porn, either.
Doesn't the OP say that exploding-heads is filled with bots, though? That they are a disreputable instance is just a distraction now, I think.
