Surprisingly I think TV/Movies got this more right because of the want to show the actors. If you had a sci-fi movie or show it was probably in there. 2001 A Space Odyssey and Star Trek both in the sixties had an, albeit clunkier, face time or zoom. I think with novels with less of a need to show who was talking radio and messages were more common.

The coaching staff seems really high on him. Could just end up being a pre-season superstar but who knows. Lots of UDFAs getting praise from the coaching staff.

We can edit titles now but do I want too... Let's see if anyone else notices

Maybe LaPorta not being TE1 is a bit of an eyebrow raiser because of reports out of camp but he's a rookie and it's the first unofficial depth chart so whatever.

My takeaway was similar. The front office thinks that we now have a competitive team and the extra money for a high quality backup is worth the expense versus a potentially higher draft pick if worst comes to worst. Their saying the Superbowl window is now open.

Probably gonna draft him in fantasy way to early

Would love to see Eze develop more. I know the Athletic touched on it their latest camp notes but good O-line depth would be nice. Seems like the rookie Sorsdal looks ok though.

Feel like we know the oline is decent so makes me really think the d line is gonna be mean this year. Should make the whole defense look better but we also added some more talent in the secondary so... Man it's gonna be a fun year.

Thank God we drafted Brian Branch. Sucks it sounds like we won't get both this year.

Updates say he may be fine. Know more tomorrow. Bless the knees everybody. update

Thought it'd be fun to share what everyone has been reading. I'll try to include titles and authors to make finding more information on them easier as well as a brief synopsis and my thoughts.

I had a lot of travel this week and speed through "Children of Time" by Adrian Tchaikovsky. Great read with very interesting ideas and payoff that had me hooked. Covers human uplifting of other species, their development, and interactions afterwards.

I've also been working on "Strontium Dog" from 2000 A.D. comics (hey, it's sci-fi and it's printed) and made it through most of Vol. 3. In short, the main character Johnny Alpha is a mutant who's only available employment is as a bounty hunter. Very fun read in general, although part of the main beats in this volume are sad.

Started a new novel and continued working on my audiobook but I'll save my thoughts on that for next week / when I finish them.

Should we move any active users here over to https://lemmy.ca/c/printsf

With such a small community it might make more sense for the time being.

Thought it'd get appealed and bumped down to 2. Guess I was wrong.

Trying to jump start this community a bit and thought sharing what we are all reading would be fun.

Recently I just finished "All These Worlds" by Dennis E. Taylor (book 3 of the bobiverse) which I enjoyed. Pulpy but that's fine by me.

I've been listening to the murderbot diaries on my commute because they were in the humble bundle recently and enjoyed those a well. Just finished "Rogue Protocol" by Martha Wells there.

Taking a short breather from prose and read "The Apocalypse War" arc of Judge Dredd. Comics still count as print sci-fi right? Been working through those chronologically alongside Strontium Dog.

I've kinda stalled on "The Dark Forest" by Liu Cixin. Just not working for me the way "The Three-Body Problem" did. Which to be honest I thought was marginal overall but when it worked it was great. Maybe just in a tough patch?

Kinda my last two weeks but who's counting. Have some long travel coming up and have some good novels picked out but that'd be spoilers for next week.

Found this article about under the radar players for the Lions. Who do you think will surpass expectations? Who do you think we will be worse than expected?

Honestly, having not watched any OTAs or the sort I think James Houston might be a little underwhelming. I think this is mostly because expectations from some people are wildly sky high for him.

What are people's thoughts? I like the theme and concept execution but think his games are a bit too heavy for me to get regular play. We keep meaning to get back to The Gallerist but can't find the time. I skimmed two video reviews (Rahdo and Man v. Meeple) and one suggested it was a lighter game (for Lacerda) and the other said it was up there with his more complex.

Title says it all. Also a way to grow this community.
