There seems to be this new trend of accounts being created to post this low quality rage bate and other boomer humour at best in this community. This is either a bot, or a really bored loser, either way, the pattern is very obvious (new account that posts 3 comics in a row here and nothing else), and easy to spot and block.

I know this will have little impact, but do yourselves a favour - don't feed the troll.

The fact that the link to the source essay takes me the the anarchist library makes me happy. I'll try and give it a proper look later/tomorrow, but bookmarking it for sure!

E: I've just skimmed the post you linked, and yeah, that's a really healthy and important distinction to make!

It isn't just disable people who are fed this narrative, it's everyone, it's all a part of ableism, and this is one way it manifests when we internalise it.

As well as how it impacts us personally, it's also important to recognise that it is a systemic, but also artificial construct that is enforced on society, not something that naturally exists (I don't have the spoons at the minute to source this, but there is a lot of evidence starting from early in pre history of humans taking care of their old, hurt, and or disabled). Not only because it's important to understand the big picture, but because doing that helps alleviate some of the guilt it burdens us with when we don't fit the narrative of "beating it". It isn't our failure, it isn't our responsability to "inspire" others, or provide them with a feel good story they can cling on to to stave off their fear and disgust of disability.

(E: I feel like I could have made my point much better, but my brain is too tired to figure out how so I'm leaving it)

I love how the men who can't help but pipe up about how "ackchyually" this isn't the case because reasons all magically happen to anecdotally be the statistical anomalies of what decades of research (not to mention their reflexive reaction) has repeatedly proven is a real problem that exists across all walks of life.

Like pretty much all posts about anything even remotely feminism related, it is a self selection mechanism that they just can't help but react to.

being patient like that definitely a skill that is not always easy to get right, and certainly takes practice.

What it mostly takes is mountains of privilege.

Not to mention that tone policing and demanding faux civility (but only from one side, the other gets to openly support oppressive constructs and still be seen as "well meaning" while those defending their humanity and fighting for survival get framed as the problem) are tools that serve to further oppress already marginalise voices, not uplift them.

Do better.

When it comes to social justice, "friendly debate" usually means "unpaidemotional labor in which you are pressured to be super patient and kind to me while I invalidate your humanity and the humanity of people you love." People's lives are not a thought experiment.

Why do I have to watch my language for fear of alienating allies, when they can watch us die without fear of anything?

Wow, I feel both seen and very attacked 😂

I do all of this and more. It's constant, and it's exhausting.

Ah, yes, women as possessions owned by their husbands and fathers, and used as objects to inflict revenge on other men with, how enlightened and progressive, and not just as shitty and harmful as when they do it. 🙄(heavy /s)

(and because defensive people like to make up straw people to protect their ego and cognitive dissonance - fuck the entire trump family, this isn't a defence of any of them, it's an indictment of how deeply misogyny is rooted in the entirety of society, including leftist circles that consider themselves "progressive" yet are happy to resort to this kind of counterproductive and harmful bullshit)

Meanwhile corporations will see profit rises of (at least) 20% in 2025, but the two are unrelated, don't look behind the curtain *tucks back some artificial scarcity and war mongering for profit that have slipped out*

Yeah, that'll show him, and not just feed his ego.. 🙄

[–] ShareMySims 13 points 2 months ago

He wants to be king of the world, it's as simple as that. He already has the most money (not that that'll stop him from wanting more), now he just needs to have the most power, and actively supporting the rise of fascism around the world (which he has been doing for long before he let his mask start to slip and now completely come off) is his way of getting it.

The fact that you think he bought twitter, or is running it the way he is as some sort of troll, rather than a very real, and very effective, way of manipulating the public as well as politics as a whole, shows how well it works.

ID: a simple flowchart titled "Should I Punch This Nazi?". At the top is the question "Is the Nazi within punching distance?" two arrows lead to "Yes" and "No". "Yes" has an arrow leading to "Punch the Nazi". "No" has an arrow to "Move closer" and from that back up to "Is the Nazi within punching distance?"

ID: colourful bubble text: "hop in we're going to protect trans kids!". Between the words are Richard Scarry characters driving and riding in their individual vehicles: a worm in an apple car, a pig in a corn car with a non-binary flag waving at the back, a mouse in a rainbow coloured pencil car, a pig in a hotdog car, a mouse in a pickled cucumber car with a trans flag waving at the back, a cat on a bicycle with a progress flag waving at the back, and finally a small animal I can't identify, maybe a gecko or cricket in a crayon car.

Came across this site while looking for the manual for the robot dogs now patrolling trump's place, looks like a great source of helpful info.

ID: A poster in 3 segments, 2 at the top and one bellow:

  1. The text "if we wait for the government it will be too late" above a drawing of 4 people meeting in an airconditioned building. One is Grey and is smiling and showing love to the others, saying "I love you guys!". The 3 others are red, who is smoking a cigar, green holding a bag of cash, and yellow wearing a top hat represent gas oil and coal respectively.

  2. The text "if we act as individuals it will be too little" above a drawing of a person in a small but flourishing garden, they are holding up an apple they got from one of their trees, saying " Such... beauty!" with sparkly eyes. Beyond their fence to the left is an incoming tsunami, to the right are a field and trees on fire with bellowing smoke.

  3. The text "if we act as communities it might just be enough" above a drawing of several groups of people outside. From left to right, there are 3 people standing around a produce table that has a sign above it saying "crop swap on today!", next to it is a small cabinet marked "seed library". On the ground in the centre foreground are an adult and 3 children sitting around a campfire, the kids listening intently, the adult has the Australian Aboriginal flag on their shirt. Behind them are an adult and child getting a pizza out of an outdoor oven. To the right is a stall with a sign above it saying "refugees welcome", in front of it are two adults, one is wearing a head scarf and is holding a baby. In front of the stall are 4 rows of crops growing from the ground.

ID: Text on a trans flag themed background:

I want to see trans people get old and go grey.

I want to see trans people retire.

I want to see T4T couples celebrating 50 years together.

I want to see trans grandparents and great grandparents.

I want to see trans people live long, happy lives.

ID: 4 panels:

  1. A self righteous person holds their hand up and says "Violence is never the solution."

  2. Stephie replies with a smile "Oh! So you agree that we shouldn't give weapons to the police?"

  3. She adds "And that we should dismantle the army?"

  4. Stephie is now right up behind the other person, looking angry, saying "Or did you mean that violence is only a solution when it helps maintain the status quo?". The other person looks deeply uncomfortable.

ID: A poster titled "How to turn you landlord into a tent in 4 easy steps" with 4 simple line graphics illustrating the steps:

  1. A man in a suit with his hand out asking for money

  2. The head of the man alongside two large bones, a spinal column, and a smaller bone

  3. The large bones and spinal column form the base of an A-frame tent

  4. A patchwork of the landlord's skin makes up the tarp draped over the frame, and the small bones are used as pegs to hold the whole thing down
