That is a bit of a selection bias. What you are effectively saying is "the biblical names that have survived to today have staying power".

But even that isn't true here as almost all of the names you cite are significantly different now than their original forms. Looking at your list we have Yeshua, Shemuel, Mikael, Rivka, Yohanan, Miriam, and Paulus. Adam is mostly the same, as is David (with a bit of an accent difference), but the rest didn't exactly emerge as they were.

There is no current game I want to play that doesn't run on Linux. Valve really has done an amazing job with proton and getting games to work as well or better on Linux.

Now, that said, I am not big into competitive multiplayer, so take that into account. Anti cheat is still a problem since most of the current ones need permissions that are not normally given on Linux.

That doesn't explain why already established products are ditching things like plainly visible scroll bars in products like Microsoft word and other content viewers.

So, how are people doing over here? I am getting over a cold and playing Inscryption (along with my partner who is backseat gaming).

How are other folk?

I have put a moderate amount of work into putting together an enjoyable, functional electronic environment that reflects my unique interests and tastes. So, I am curious. Anyone else out there have their comfy, cozy personal electronic home?

My personal setup is a good, but old laptop running Linux tweaked to my liking, with a beefier gaming desktop also running Linux. I have the two configured so I can use the laptop and swap to a secondary workspace that is the gaming pc whenever I want to do something that could use a bit more power or if I just want to off load it to the other machine and have it do something in the background. Added to that nice compatibility, I also have my phone set up for the same functionality, so I can access the main computer there as well. Then I just recently added a Steam Deck to the mix that is currently my main gaming device. Anything it can run, I do there. If not, you guessed it, I moonlight into the gaming pc to run the latest AAA games on higher settings. Add to that a set of good wireless earbuds with smart assistant functionality and a home with smart lights and features and I kinda walk around a little electronic paradise.

So, what are y'all running with? What little personalized things have you done to make your world yours? Or are the computers in your life just tools and you are good with how they come?

This... this was a low-key life changer.

I made the recipe as it was originally done and it was pretty much the simplest, quickest thing I have ever made.

You need noodles (I used a simple pack of the "fresh" noodles from the supermarket, it took literally 2 minutes to cook), a block of decent Parmesan cheese that you will shred about a cup of (gotta go with a block that you shred yourself, the pre-shredded doesn't work), and four tablespoons of butter. That's it.

You boil the noodles per the package (it was 2 minutes for the ones I used), then pull them from the water and put them wet in a large bowl with the butter. Add a small amount of the water you boiled the noodles in (like 1/3rd cup or so) and then slowly add in the cheese, mixing it as you go. That's it. You can add more pasta water if you want it saucier, but mix it until the cheese and butter melts into a sauce and you are good to go.

With the fresh noodles, it maybe takes 5 or 6 minutes and was a very tasty and filling meal. Totally worth it.

I brought up the idea of protesting reddit and moving to Lemmy a couple of times on the INTP subreddit to tepid interest, but if we wanted to get a few more people over here, we could try and let people know we are over here carving out our niche.

Not sure if a post was made over yonder or not, and I would not want to unilaterally decide to do so, but it could be good to have a few more voices in here.

What says the sub?

As a Linux user, the Steam Deck is an amazing system to work with. I kinda dropped off with gaming in the last few years and the SD really rekindled my desire to game both solo and doing cozy co-op with my partner.

Truly a game changer and I'm so happy it's supporting Linux while doing it

Currently paying Outer Wilds in my steam deck while docked to a tv. It's been very engaging and fun for my wife and I to sit down and try and solve an interstellar mystery while winding down for the night.

Interesting game with good art style and interesting mechanics.

Agreed. I don't see it as an either/or issue. If this place becomes a cool place to hang out and find cool things and cool people, then that is a win.

Was just checking to see if any INTP folk made the trip here from Reddit. Is this an actual sub or just another thing that an INTP decided to do, but then hot bored half way to execution?

(I am recreating this post from Reddit here as well in case anyone has any insight or if I solve the issue, so I can add my solution to the non-Reddit body of troubleshooting knowledge)

I am quite a happy Deck owner and have had no problems that I couldn't tackle with a bit of Linux knowhow and willingness to do a google search.

But... I am trying something new. I have the official dock and have used it for months to play games directly off the Deck just fine. I have also used the deck to stream games off my PC running Linux Mint (Cyberpunk worked nicely). What I am trying now is to stream a game from the Mint PC to the Deck while the Deck is docked to the official dock.

I dock the Deck (wired to the network), and it can see the PC (also wired). I can click to stream the game as normal and it even starts the game on the remote PC. But that is where it fails. It sits on the loading screen for a moment, and then aborts back to the Deck library. I have the option to "connect" to the now running game, but it only pulls up the generic loading screen again for a few moments before dumping back to the game page in my library.

Games I have tried: Cyberpunk, Outer Wilds, Fallout 4. All of these run just fine when streaming direct to the Deck, but fail when trying to do it docked to a TV.

Any ideas?

The Steam Deck ran it surprisingly well, to be honest. I used the settings off this page and it ran at a pretty solid ~40 FPS.

Not my favorite game, but it was pretty and fun to jump around hacking people as I hacked at people (with a katana). Story was ok, and the ending was just a bit meh for me, but worth it in my eyes.

Next I'm on to playing Outer Wilds docked to the TV with my partner. I'm a few cycles into it and am hooked. The Steam Deck was an excellent buy!

Yes but there were and still are wild, edible fruit and vegetables. Humans were hunter gatherers. We have always eaten whatever we could get a hold of. We're omnivores for a reason.

I got into contact juggling a decade or two ago. It is basically a form of juggling in which a clear or solid-colored ball stays in contact with your body to interesting effect. Think the Goblin King from the movie "Labyrinth".

It is rare enough that you don't meet many people that have seen it, and with enough of a learning curve that not many people that start ever really get anywhere with it.

This one just occurred to me, but I have always had iffy handwriting and recently have been trying to learn Russian which is reliant on fairly tricky cursive.

I have found the whole experience of learning a new style of cursive to be frustratingly difficult and was wondering if not having a good visual memory might lend itself to a slightly harder time of it.

The Cheat is grounded!

[-] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

So, what I would guess is that they would take a similar tack to other decentralized services or FOSS initiatives. You find people that are using the technology to skirt an existing law, for instance sharing pirated media, circumventing encryption, or some other thing that shouldn't be a crime, but technically is. Then, you demonize the whole technology for that one set of infractions. Make an attempt to ban the whole the technology, but then walk it back to just a set of regulations that make it almost impossible to comply.

[-] [email protected] 23 points 1 year ago

What I would honestly fear happening more than corpos coming in to buy up communities is the possibility of them join forces to lobby congress or other governmental authorities into creating unfavorable legislation and regulation.

It is nice to be in a free world, but freedom is a threat to those that want to make money off of peoples' attention.

[-] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago

Agreed. I have given a fair amount of my time and energy to creating a sense of community in several subreddits and have been a member for over a decade. But the fact that they suddenly see dollar signs and want to burn that social capital for a quick buck does not speak well for the future of the site. One way or another, they are going to sell out and fuck over the user to make money.

I'm done.
