Their post announcing it, has comments disabled. I have been going on reddit looking for polls to vote "yes" to continue to participate in the blackout. This was kind of a bummer.

Edit: Looking at the mods most recent post, they're still putting up a fight! And all new posts have 0 upvotes and I can't see comments from RiF anyway. Can anyone else see anything from other reddit apps?

An open source website to watch subreddits going dark. Many are deciding to go dark indefinitely to protest.

Som andre herinde havde spået, så var der ikke ret meget viljestyrke fra mods side til at kæmpe denne kamp

As of 12:56pm GMT (7:56am central time), 7742/8299 subreddits are no longer public

The information I initially posted is misleading. Thus, I have edited the title and this content area to report accurate numbers.

As @roofuskit mentioned, the 8299 number is the amount of subreddits that committed to going dark, not the total number of subreddits, which is over 3,000,000.

And as @8thiest was keen to observe, 204 of the top 250 are dark, as you can see from this site: https://save3rdpartyapps.com/

This is a cool website for tracking the blackout as it happens.

It's started (reddark.untone.uk)

Some of my favorite subs have started going private already. I moved RiF out of the tray and replaced it with Jerboa.

I started my aggregated news with slashdot and fark. Moved to Digg after Kevin Rose announced it on TTV. went to Reddit at digg v2 because Reddit looked like diggv1. Went to rif when mobile usage passed my computer usage, now I'm here!

What's your story?

First subreddit over 10M to go private. The message shown when trying to enter the sub is a quote from spez:

I think the problem Digg had is that it was a company that was built to be a company, and you could feel it in the product. The way you could criticize Reddit is that we weren't a company – we were all heart and no head for a long time. So I think it'd be really hard for me and for the team to kill Reddit in that way. Hopefully I'm posting this in the right place, but I see Reddit developments as Tech news right now.

Wanted to share a website that is tracking Subreddits that have/will be going dark. It even has a sound notification for when they change their status.

Edit: Adding the stream https://www.twitch.tv/reddark_247

Double Edit: Data visualization https://blackout.photon-reddit.com/
