PieFed è costruito con Python, uno dei linguaggi di programmazione più diffusi. Si è cercato di costruirlo nel modo più semplice possibile, in modo da consentire il contributo di programmatori di ogni livello e di mantenere bassi i costi del server. Questo accelererà notevolmente il processo di sviluppo di PieFed e ne amplierà l'adozione.
