  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.

He will fold as soon as things get consequential for him, this is a guy who kinda just knucked under and accepted people pronouncing his last name wrong as a matter of course. He's fundamentally a coward.

Considering he can't get re-elected and his presidental bid is in shambles he'll have little to do with it if it ever happens.

In the bigness of time, he will be nothing more than a speck of dust.

Excuse me. I need to find where I put my cosmic duster...

underestimating republicans is how we ended up with president trump.

Considering smoking weed was basically what made me start thinking how everything is bullshit that we take for granted, yeah the GOP would hate people getting high.

For me it took something a little stronger (psychedelics), but yes I agree. They're afraid that these substances will give people some perspective.

In the Nixon era, throwing people in jail for drugs was about suppressing hippies and black people.

Now, it's likely more about campaign contributions from privatized prisons. It's profitable to throw someone in jail for something stupid and keep them there for as long as possible.

Looking a little deeper, Florida has five (or more?) privatized prisons ran by the GEO Group that donates exclusively to Republicans: https://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/geo-group/summary?id=D000022003

The 1980s called. They want their stupid back.

DeathSentence doesn’t give a damn about pot. He’s just catering to the Reefer Madness crowd that just wants to throw minorities in jail.

Funny, I think Desantis is a menace to society.

The best thing about pudding fingers is he's a fucking laughing stock and everybody knows it. Well.. Except Floridian voters.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

Florida is the laughing stock of America so it goes hand in hand.

Are we seriously still talking about this? It'd be really cool if we could just move on, nobody gives a fuck about weed, jfc.

Right? I hate how often journalists write headlines that presume to know people's beliefs by taking everything they say at face value. It's like they just have no concept of people acting in bad faith and saying whatever it takes to advance their agenda.

If I had to guess I'd say DeSantis has no opinions about weed that don't involve how he can use it to advance his political ambitions. His whole shtick is getting people riled up about imaginary problems so he can sell himself and his authoritarian policies as the solution, and weed has historically been an easy way to get certain people in a tizzy.
