Steampunk is the healthiest way to eat your punk.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I thought we were having steamed clams?

[–] [email protected] 28 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Ohh no, I said steam punk. That's what I call industrial retrofuturistic aesthetics.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Uh, huh…and you call it that despite it obviously being a style of design and fashion that combines historical elements with anachronistic technological features inspired by science fiction?

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yes, it's a regional dialect.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

May I see it?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

Well @[email protected] , you're an odd fellow, but I must say- you steam a good punk.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Maybe, but I had some really good frypunk at the State Fair...

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Frypunk doesn't have corsets and waist coats, it has Spanx and Rascal Scooters.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

What about Punk Fry?

Steampunk asks the question “what if goth, only in brown?”

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Steampunk asks the question, "what if there was more white colonialism in history?"

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago (6 children)

Not sure how you get that, because it's either fantasy or alt-history that usually sees the British Steam Empire as the bad guy but okay.

Imagine dressing every day in green clothes covered in microchips and LCDs and li-ion batteries

[–] [email protected] 32 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If everyone covered themselves in lithium ion batteries, gun fights in movies would get way more spectacular.

flesh wound "I'm alright!" burst into flames

Why would I imagine my workday?

[–] [email protected] 32 points 1 year ago (8 children)

I don't see where horny comes into this. Steampunk is generally Victorian dress, teched up a bit.

[–] [email protected] 35 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Maybe it's just me, but when I think of steampunk, I imagine women wearing the bottom half of a dress and a corset. Usually corsets are worn under clothing and is similar to a bra. It doesn't help that lingerie is very similar in appearance to corsets

[–] [email protected] 35 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Also, useless gears on every single thing, even if they don't move. And tophats with a pair of goggles while also having a pair of goggles of the same type on the neck. And there are gears on the tophat of course.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Still shuddering about Clockwork Planet where t hey somehow rebuild an another planet mostly with gears and everywhere are just gears stack on top of each other connecting to nothing. It's just gears all the way down, because, that's how it works.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

I love the casual disregard for questions about what happens when one of those gears jams.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

This is of course in addition to the goggles he wears over his eyes

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

Naturally. You need goggles for your goggles!

[–] captain_aggravated 19 points 1 year ago (1 children)

When I think "steampunk costume" my mind kinda leaps to "Wild west technohooker."

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Jim West, Desperado

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

🎵 Just glue some gears on it, and call it steam punk 🎵

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

🎵 That's the trendy fashion nowadays! 🎵

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago

Its the women who put on a corset and use it to smash their tiddies way up under their chin... also a significant portion who decide that knee high high heeled boots, long skirts that have a split very high on the thigh and fishnets complete the ensemble.

Its less victorian and more cowboy era saloon prostitute, but you dont hear me complaining.

“Sir, we could use steam to power this-“
Hat.
sigh…I’ll get the cog wheels.”

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 year ago (1 children)

"Sir, you've run the steam pipes directly into your goggles."

"I have a theory that the steam will reheat the low levels of light to daylight brightness and provide night vision!"

"Sir, I don't know how scientifically sound that..."

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaagh

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago

I’m not gonna lie. I would watch the hell out of a show where wacky steam punk inventors find out about the unfortunate laws of physics and thermodynamics.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 year ago (4 children)

When breaking it down it down technology actually IS just hot water and clocks.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

My clock got hot water everywhere

If there was a sub for this kind of standup comedy post id subscribe

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah, I get that it isn't exactly a meme, but I wanted to share and I didn't know a more appropriate community.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

There isn't one, this is the best place for it for now. But if someone wanted to start a new community for stand up posts I'd join

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Be the sub you want to see in the world.

Also tag me, I'd subscribe.

The irony is intentional :)

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)
