To quote the great George Carlin

"think about how stupid the average person is then realize half of them are dumber than that."

Either that, or there is one incredibly dumb person throwing off the average.

Making them even dumber 🤔

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Right but the thing is no one knows who the average person is.

Y'all have no idea how fucking stupid some of the people that I have to deal with when it comes to the coronavirus and the pandemic. It's amazing they even function in normal society or can make themselves a PB&J sandwich.

I always think of the phrase: "Imagine how dumb the average human is. Half the population is dumber than that."

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ackshually that would be the median human

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Since IQ follows a normal distribution mean and median are the same.

Don't be mean.

Reminds me of Tommy Lee Jones in MIB: "A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know it."

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

A better way I like to use is: "Even if I'm the average person, half of all others are dumber than me". I may be above or below average, but I feel it gets the point across better because you have a reference point.

"What are the ingredients of a PB&J? I can only remember the mayonnaise."

It seems like a silly thing to do a study on but if you notice they discuss how making vaccine appointments can mitigate the effects. There’s a lot of research going on that is looking at how to counteract the antivax nonsense that is driving less educated (and sometimes highly educated) people to avoid getting not only their Covid vaccine but other vaccines as well. For instance there’s research that shows when medical professionals strongly recommend vaccinations and regularly remind their patients to get their shots, their patients are more likely to agree to do it and follow up with boosters. Again seems like a common sense thing but it’s little things like this that can start to whittle away at the impact these antivax profiteers have had on people.

That prebooked part of the graphs got my attention as well.

I guess prebooking helps narrow choices for people and most just decide to "go through" with it than not.

I remember looking through one of my friend's textbooks for the MBA degree he was getting. One passage actually read "your skill at negotiating will affect the outcome of the negotiations". Apparently the author moved on to epidemiology.

we’ve been trying to tell them that for going on 4 years now

But you don't understand. Karen really fucking needed them to open the salon so she could get her roots dyed!

Lori Lightfoot literally did this.

Surprised they read it and understood. Good for them.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

Let's just say, if they could read they'd be very upset right now.

You won't be so high and mighty when the vaccine causes you to drop dead by August 2022.

I know someone whose little toddler daughter was hospitalized in ICU several times with very bad asthma attacks in the last 18 months, and she refuses to vaccinate her against COVID. I refuse to interact with her anymore.
