One of the places that Jeff Bezos lives is a man-made island off the coast of Florida called Indian Creek Village. The island is predominantly populated by other billionaires and is colloquially known as the “Billionaire Bunker.” In fact, if you’re not a billionaire, it’s quite difficult to get in. The bridge from the mainland to the island is closed to the public and protected by armed guards and a sophisticated security system. However, if the island is almost entirely cut off from the rest of humanity, the island’s inhabitants still seem intent on sharing one thing with members of the outside world: their piss and shit.

Indian Creek doesn’t have the underground infrastructure to deal with its own poop, so the solution it came up with was to funnel it through Surfside into a wider regional sewage system. Unfortunately, Surfside didn’t want the poop unless Indian Creek was willing to contribute $10 million to the community for future sewer system improvements. Indian Creek has referred to this request as “extortion.”

It's the perfect example of what's wrong with this country. Asking overly wealthy to pay a fractional percent of their wealth is met with disdain and disgust.

Pump their sewage right into their fuckin swimming pools. Cover their lawns in it. Drown a few in it in a shallow tub in a town park.

when the government wants more to do something using its existing infrastructure than it would cost you do do it yourself I don't think it's unreasonable to be annoyed.

Some of the richest people in the world don't want to pay 10 million dollars to clean up their own shit. 10 million is like $1 to Bezos.

I saw this number on another post about the same article. And the original math was something like 10 million is 1% of a billion. And Bezos is worth ~250 billion.

So 10 million would be 1/250 of 1% of his wealth. And i did the math to see what that would amount to for a normal person.

If you have $100k in total (savings, investing, properties etc), 1% would be $1000. And 1/250 of that is $4.

So if Bezos was someone who had around $100k in total, the amount he was asked to pay to clean up the entire towns shit is $4.

Someone please check my math.

Rich people don't stay rich by paying for things, they are hardcoded in their brains to extort every dollar from their fellow man.

How evil do you have to be to even have this thought?

Cool, just clog the pipe and let them deal with their own sewage backing up on them

Now the price is 20 million dollars

I hope Bezos can drop that $2 so he won't "look" evil.
