I read through these and it's 80% AI crap that no one asked for. New features? Recall and copilot trash. Bugs? Problems with Recall and copilot. I'm so glad I switched to Linux some months ago. If Microsoft doesn't see reason soon, they might just kill windows.

they might just kill windows.

One might start thinking it's intentional indeed. I imagine Azure is their new cash cow, and perhaps MS is pivoting.

Wouldn't know. Left Windows behind and now it's someone else's problem.

The won't kill Windows until there is some alternative for consuments and no, Linux ain't it...mostly because there is still a big faith in common folk that Linux is some arcane tech. Which is pretty much proven in their opion when they try to use it, cause they try to use it like Windows.

And no, Lemmings don't count, most of us have some kind of dev experience, be it professional or hobbyist.

I disagree that Linux isn't an alternative but even if it wasn't, MacOS is.

Seems like Microsoft doesn't mind having their userbase reduce another 20% and giving it to their main competitor.

Maybe this time they'll change their ways.

Ugh at work I was forced to use MacOS and i find i3 + arch way more intuitive than that.

Very nice eye candy but every keyboard shortcut is stupid on MacOS, productivity is ruined

Also window tiling is stupid too on MacOS

I understand, but my point is that MacOS is more than serviceable as a work-focused operating system. It is more than capable to replace Windows as long as you're willing to accept a different work flow.

If you're already on Linux then great, stay there. But the average consumer wants something easier to use, and MacOS is easy. More importantly, it doesn't treat you like garbage like Windows does.

Speaking of, this video came to mind.

Your argument is more out of date than Vista. Windows is not the default because people like their software, or would choose it over anything else. It's because they've positioned themselves as the default monopoly since the goddamn 1980s.

To see what happens when Microsoft has to compete on quality of software, just ask yourself why Copilot and Recall aren't being rolled out on Windows phones.

25% of the world still uses Windows 7. People aren't going to switch to Linux when they have an OS that just works.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

That would be 1 in 4 users and that's just not accurate at all.

What you mean to say is 25% of Windows users still use windows 7.

Its still an alarming statistic, and no wonder bruteforce cyberattacks are still so effective today considering it hasn't received security updates in like 10 years.

I sincerely hope those people aren't connecting their devices to the internet like, at all.

I'm fairly sure at this point even using a Debian based distro is better than sticking to windows 7.

"... up to 30% of our code is AI generated..."

I bet the did it internally for April fools and it's just getting out to the public.

It's not a bug, it's a feature :D Would be nice to be an option

[ADDED] This week’s flight comes with a delightful blast from the past and will play the Windows Vista boot sound instead of the Windows 11 boot sound. We’re working on a fix.

I'd say "these jokes write themselves" but, well, Microsoft even took that away... It's a comedy bluescreen.

the startup sounds of the two worst versions of windows

C'mon, people... File versioning.
