This will be quite long, so for those who don’t feel like reading it all, the tl;dr is: played Dark Souls III, then Elden Ring, then Sekiro, then Dark Souls 1, then replayed Dark Souls III.

Back around when the final dlc for Dark Souls III released, I saw it go on sale. Just the base game, but I decided to pick it up as I had heard Dark Souls games were supposed to be really good. I knew it was hard but that was about it. Once I booted it up and heard the title screen music, I immediately fell in love. If the rest of the music was half as good as this, I knew I’d love the game even if the gameplay sucked. So I started playing.

I really sucked at it. I kept dying to the intro boss. I even tried making a new character just to beat him. However, after many failed attempts, I finally got him, and I felt the rush. I’d never felt like that before while playing a game, but it made me want to keep playing and go through whatever challenges necessary to feel that feeling again. So I pushed on. Went to Firelink, did the High Wall of Lothric, fought Vordt, died many times, finally killed him and got that awesome feeling back. So I kept going.

I eventually got decent, and started getting bosses in 10-20 attempts which was better than what I was doing at the start, embarrassingly. Pontiff brought me back to dozens of attempts, but other than that I was doing well. I continued to do even better, and even managed to kill the Dancer on my second attempt (first real attempt, since I died almost immediately when she surprised me into a boss fight).

Then I got to the Twin Princes. Man, these guys drained me. I was stuck on them for so long. Literal hundreds of attempts went into these guys. I quit many, many times. I took breaks from the game for a while but I’d always come back and always get crushed. Full length games came and went, but I’d keep coming back to DS3, and I’d keep dying to the Twin Princes. I nearly gave up for good. However, literal years later, on one very lucky day, i finally killed them. I had sunk many, many hours trying to figure these guys out, and it finally paid off. I don’t need to tell you how good that felt. With that amazing feeling,

I went into the endgame and completed Dark Souls III. I missed out on all the optional areas, and didn’t buy the dlc, but I beat Dark Souls III. It was my greatest gaming achievement by a long shot at that time. It felt damn good.

A couple years later, Elden Ring came out. In typical patientgamers fashion (which I didn’t realize was a thing at the time), I waited close to a year before pulling the trigger. I think it was the Christmas sale when I got it, and man I fell in love. 200 hours later and I had all achievements. Another 60 hours and I completed every single dungeon, catacomb, and optional area. I think I’ve seen just about every pixel of that game at this point. With my DS3 experience going into ER I started out playing decently well, but ended up a pretty competent player. I can fight pretty much any boss at this point without much trouble. Certainly not good enough for intense challenge runs, mind you, but still.

After that obsession started to get me burnt out, I decided to try the rest of their games out, so I got Sekiro next as it was on sale. It took a few hours and a couple attempts but I finally got into the game, and got sucked into it. I became obsessed, more than I was with Elden Ring. Whenever I wasn’t playing the game I was watching videos about it or reading up on the game. Another game I’ve probably seen every pixel for. After 100 hours and 4 playthroughs, I got all achievements in Sekiro too. Those are still the only two “long” games (longer than a few hours) I have all achievements for. Sekiro is also probably the game I feel I’m best at. I was able to do a deathless run so that was pretty awesome. I doubt I could do that now since it’s been a little bit, but still something awesome to brag about. I nearly did deathless with charmless and bell active but died to snake eyes unfortunately. That one stung.

Eventually, the Dark Souls trilogy went on steam sale for the first time in a year and a half. I immediately pulled the trigger. At this point, I had played a bit of Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls 1 and 2 but never completed any, so I didn’t bother mentioning them earlier. I knew I’d like them but didn’t know how much. I started with the first one. The visual style (mostly lighting) threw me off a bit, but I got used to it and eventually ended up loving its charm. I fully completed Dark Souls Remastered including all bosses and optional areas. Another game I became obsessed with. At this point I was definitely feeling like a competent FromSoft gamer. No boss took more than 5 attempts on my first playthroughs which was a big step up from my DS3 playthrough. I still don’t have all achievements for DS1 yet, but that will come soon I’m sure.

After DS1, I tried the second. As mentioned before, I did play a little bit of it, but not much. Honestly, I couldn’t get into it right after playing DS1. The movement just felt too off. I felt way to fast and the gameplay felt way too sensitive. I got really used to the deliberate gameplay of the first one, that the second felt too fast and like I didn’t have as much precise control over my movements. I’m not sure how to better explain it than that, but it might just be a me problem because I tried a different third person action game after and felt the same feeling so maybe DS1 just ruined some games for me. Wouldn’t be surprised. I still haven’t gotten far yet into DS2 but I do plan on eventually playing it and completing all areas and bosses.

Temporarily skipping the second one, I finally decided to replay DS3. I booted it up for the first time in years, and instant nostalgia hit. It felt good to be back. The movement felt better too which was good, I was worried I’d have the same issue as with DS2 and it would sour my experience, but thankfully that wasn’t the case.

I created a character, cleared out the first area, got to the first boss, and, well, wow. I shredded him. Like, it wasn’t even close. How did I struggle with this guy so much before? Like I mentioned, I created multiple playthroughs in an attempt to hopefully kill this guy, and I died many times on him, and this time around I tore him apart without much thought. Despite the easy fight, killing him first try felt awesome, because it showed me how far I had come. That was a way better feeling than a simple boss kill rush feeling.

So on I pressed, eventually getting to Vordt, who I think took two attempts but went down easy enough. I carried on, through the next few areas, and eventually came to Farron Keep. This area was more annoying than I had remembered. It certainly wasn’t unbearable, better than the Tomb of the Giants from DS1, but still pretty annoying to deal with. But after making my way through, I got treated to the Abyss Watchers, my favourite boss my first time around, who I got a brand new appreciation for after having fought Artorias. Down they went, and on I pushed.

I think the first new content I explored was the Smouldering Lake. It was a bit tougher than expected, so I decided to put a pause on it. I did quickly grab the Fume Ultra Greatsword, a weapon I really wanted my first time around but that I was too scared to work for, and it became my weapon of choice for the rest of my playthrough once I got my strength up high enough. I was using Zwei beforehand if anyone was curious.

After dying a few times to the Old Demon King and deciding the Lake was to be put off until later, I carried on with the regular game, including Irithyll which is still my favourite city in any video game ever, and up until the Dancer, which I got first try. I guess it wasn’t a fluke before, she’s just a boss I fight well. I know a lot of people find her tough so I feel lucky that I understand her attacks well. She’s one of my favourite bosses now I think. Once killing her, rather than going to Lothric proper, I decided to go to the next optional area of the game, and kill Oceiros. The fight was pretty straightforward but a lot of fun. Reminded me a bit of Seath despite not at all playing like that fight. Not sure why, but not complaining. Both cool boss fights for sure.

I continued in that direction with the optional stuff, including the alternative starting area which was equal parts cool and creepy to visit, and fought Champion Gundyr, another boss fight I know some folks struggle with that I managed to get first try. I always play without npc summons but did this one with a summon because ha ha naked sword man funny, and also because it was cool to fight alongside a normally annoying npc, so maybe that’s why it was an easy fight for me, but after exploring the alternate Firelink, I went back on the main path and through Lothric proper.

Dragonslayer Armour was as annoying as ever, and I think killed me twice, but I learned to appreciate the fight a little bit this time around. The atmosphere is cool as hell, and I love the design of the butterflies. Going through the archives was also annoying, and unfortunately I didn’t learn to appreciate this one, I still don’t like that part of the game. Not the worst, certainly not as bad as the Irithyll dungeon, but not amazing like the Irithyll city either.

I kept going on, and finally got to the Twin Princes again. Man, I was dreading this. It was my run killer last time. It was the thing looming over my head the entire playthrough. I prepared myself, made sure I was ready, and went in. The music haunted me. It’s an amazing track, but it reminded me of the many hours spent angry at this boss all those years ago. This was my nemesis in terms of video games. I killed the first phase, but I knew that was the easy part. Queue the cutscene, then on to phase two, where I was surely to die over and over and over again. Except I didn’t. I killed them. First try. I still had their entire move set completely memorized. It wasn’t even a case of “oh I remember that attack now”, I always knew every telegraph. I never forgot, and I killed them first try. It was amazing. It was the best rush I’ve felt outside of Sekiro. I still can’t believe I managed to do that.

At this point, I paused the main game and did the dlc. I went through Ashes of Ariendel and had a lot of fun. I know everyone says Friede is one of the hardest boss fights ever, but after dying quickly to her first phase, I managed to kill her second try. It was intense, but I did it. That also felt really awesome.

I knew I still had the Nameless King to fight, so on I went to complete that area. The area itself was a bit annoying but also really cool so I’m not really complaining. I think it took 8 or 9 attempts but I managed to get the Nameless King, which was a really epic boss fight. I found the fight to not necessarily be incredibly hard but rather incredibly punishing. I was able to deal decent damage and his attacks were telegraphed well, but one wrong slip and the You Died screen would come say hello. His attacks just dealt so much damage. I completed the second phase with hardly getting hit because any time I did an attempt and got hit it would be game over, between the high stagger and high damage.

I then started the Ringed City. Once I finished the Dreg Heap including the Demon Prince, and got to the actual Ringed City, I realized I could kill the final boss of the base game and continue playing, so I did that. Second attempt, Soul of Cinder was defeated. I beat the game again, but I wasn’t done yet. So back to the dlc. I continued through the city a bit until I got to the bonfire just after the summoning archers. I went through the following area a few times with the ringed knights, but either kept dying or running out of estus and booting it back to the bonfire, and after a while I realized I wasn’t having fun anymore. I still want to fight the last three bosses in the dlc but for the time being, that’s where my journey has ended. I did end up going back and killing the Old Demon King, as well as finishing that whole area, but I forget when so I’m tacking it on at the end here.

I’d also like to mention I’m cheating with the whole patientgamers thing a bit because I actually preordered Armored Core VI and started playing day one. I never do that but did it this time, first time pre-ordering anything since 2016 I think. It’s definitely the exception, I don’t plan on buying new games again for a long time. But given that AR6 is also a FromSoft game I thought I’d mention it at the end here.

Anyway, that’s my journey so far. If even a single person read this, thank you! It took me, like, an hour to write this out, so I really do appreciate it. Drop a comment down below about anything pertaining to FromSoft and their games. I’d love to talk about it some more.

Update: I powered through the rest of the Ringed City and completed it. I haven’t killed Midir yet, but besides that I’ve killed every boss and explored every area of Dark Souls III. Midir is just a bit too tough for now, I’m going to put the game down for a while and work my way through Dark Souls II I think. One day I’ll come back and kill Midir, but that day is not today. For the time being, Midir stands as the only boss to beat me, the player (obviously my character has died many times though)

you ALL skipped Dark Souls II?? It isn’t 1 or 3 but it’s pretty great.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Yeah ds2 is great. Had it a few bad things in it? Sure. ADP was wtf, a few bosses were bad (bad, not hard) but the game as a whole was and is amazing. I mean, I love ds1 but it had the whole last third of the game and despite that it was great. Was royal rat authority bad? Sure, but the game is still better than ever non from souls like (and subjectively better than ds3).

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

It was my first launch FROM game and I had an absolute blast lol, I even liked it more than 3 cause 3 felt more Bloodborne-y than Dark Souls-y to me.

If Dark Souls 2 is the worst modern FROM can do, then they‘re the GOATs of videogame studios to me.

I still fully intend on playing it, I just haven’t completed it yet. After DS3 I’m going to force myself to start it, I feel like once I get going and get used to it I’ll really enjoy it. I just need to get there first. After I kill Midir, Halflight, and Gael, I’m going to DS2 again to get through it proper

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Weird that you stopped at these 3 bosses. They are the best in ds3. Midir is just a great big boss fight, same as Gael who is the proto souls fight and halflight was great when the game had lots of players online; don't know how it is offline or pve only.

In my teens I played dark DS1 for like 14 hours before I beat those damned gargoyles. I genuinely thought this game wasn't for me because I couldn't git gud. Delivering the deathblow to the wounded gargoyle when I basically 1 hp gave me a visceral experience I'll never forget. It taught me many things but chief among them was "I can do this. I can git gud, motherfucker"

ds2 is imo the easiest in the series,
and the only one ive managed to complete so far.

here's a bunch of tipps for if you want to try again.

once you beat the last gigant,
talk to melentia untill she moves to majula,
shell sell infinite lifegems.

lifegems are better than estus,
since you can still move, and you can carry 99.

level adp untill you have 99 ~~dex~~ agility,
for iframes on the rolls.

broadsword, longsword, rapier, and mace
are great weapon you can find early on.

ds2 (especially sotfs) relys heavily on ganksquads, and enemys as an obstacle to defend the way to the boss.
you have to lure them out and fight them on your terms, its hard to run past enemys.

you can jump on the balcony on the smelter demon boss run, and skip a lot of pain.

shrine of amana, get a crossbow/bow, and snipe the mages, anything else is pure torment.

bonfire ascetics (and the expanded ng+) are the best features of ds2.
ng+ the bonfire melentia was at,
last gigant and pursuer ng+ are juicy souls if you can beat them, and you can find mats to complete a +7 or even +8 weapon very early.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Thanks for your time writing that out! I’ll definitely use it as a reference when I go back to DS2 again. After I finish the Ringed City DLC I’ll be back. I just have to beat Midir, Halflight, and Gael first. I’ve only got two attempts put into Midir so far but that’s a tough fight. I think I got him to half health on my second try before dying. I might be a little while before beating him

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Dunno, I never felt that shrine of amana was particularly hard or tedious; and I played it unnerfed/unpatched.

Adp has nothing to do with Dex. I guess you mean agility. Level adp until you feel you have enough iframes when rolling.

I relate to a lot of this. My order was Elden Ring, Sekiro, Bloodborne, DS1, DS3.

Please play Bloodborne if you have access to a PlayStation!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I want to play Bloodborne so bad. It looks so, so good. And I have basically none of it spoiled for me either. It’s got the perfect atmosphere, it’s by my favourite developers, and I’ve heard a lot of FromSoft fans call it their favourite. Apparently it was Miyazaki’s dream game to make, from what I’ve heard. Unfortunately I don’t have a PlayStation, the only way I played a little bit of Demon’s Souls is through emulation, but I’m really tempted to buy a PS4 just for Bloodborne. Or maybe a PS5 so I can also play the Demon’s Souls remake. I genuinely don’t know what to play after 100% completing all the FromSoft games on steam. I’ve got a massive list of games to get through, a bunch that were recommended to me by kind folks on here from another post, but I played a couple and Dark Souls has sorta ruined third person action games for me as I mentioned in my post, so I’ll have to either wait a while or really try to appreciate them again. I played a bit of Control but I kept thinking how i wish I were playing a game that felt like Dark Souls so I only got a couple hours into that before stopping. Maybe by the time I finish all these games, either Starfield or Buldur’s Gate III will have gone on sale and I’ll try one of them out. A bunch of my coworkers are talking about BG3 and how amazing it is, and I’m cautiously optimistic for Starfield too. But I wanna wait a while for both. Or maybe I’ll just start doing challenge runs of Dark Souls. Yeah, that sounds like a better idea

[–] urbanzero 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

When you play Bloodborne make sure you go ahead and get the DLC The Old Hunters as well. I really enjoyed the base game but fell absolutely in love when I went through the game with the DLC. As much as I love every FromSoft game I've ever played, Bloodborne is the only one I've got a Platinum for.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I absolutely will. I’ve heard the DLC is the best part by many people, and I want to get miserable dying to Orphan of Kos on repeat.

I’m undecided if I should get a PS4 or a PS5. I have Demon’s Souls via emulation on PC so I could save a fair bit of money and get a used PS4, but I also kind of want to try the DeS Remake too. I definitely want one though, I want to play Bloodborne so bad

[–] urbanzero 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Just thinking about Bloodborne and it's music is going to make me start it up again. Old Hunters might be the best DLC From has ever made.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Oh man, I bet it has a fantastic soundtrack. I’m really looking forward to one day playing it, but I need a PlayStation first. Or for them to release it on steam, that would be even more awesome

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I’d like to say that yeah, I know I put a lot more work into my write-up for DS3 than the rest, probably combined, but (a) it was my first and most meaningful, (b) it’s also my most recent so it’s fresh on my mind, and (c) this was originally just going to be a write-up on DS3 but I decided to change my post to be about my FromSoft journey because that seemed more fun to write.

I’d also like to make a minor update to the post. Immediately after posting it I decided to give the Ringed City another shot. As soon as I loaded in, I was embered and noticed a summon sign at the bonfire, so I decided to co-op the next area. We made it to bridge Midir and then I died by falling off a cliff like an idiot and didn’t find another summon sign after. I’m not sure who you are, but thank you kind stranger. You made me willing to go through the rest of this dlc. In the extremely rare chance you somehow come across this comment, I’d like to say I killed bridge Midir and made it to real Midir. I died twice to this boss so far and so I’ve put a pause on it for the time being, so I can get some sleep, since I’ve got an important day at work tomorrow, but thank you stranger for your help. I’ll never forget you

Nice! in what order would you personally rank them?

My journey:

  • abandoned Dark Souls. started in 2011, but I only played it for 2 hours because I didn't understand the Fromsoft mechanics at the time. quickly dropped.
  • beat Bloodborne. picked it up on a sale and...somehow this game clicked for me. Loved everything about it
  • still trying on Sekiro. Love this game, but I can't finish it. I've restarted numerous times, each time getting further and further. Currently stuck at the boss of Mibu Village.
  • beat Elden Ring. LOVE IT. beat this twice. More approachable compared to other games and so very satisfying.

my ranking:

  1. Bloodborne
  2. Elden Ring
  3. Sekiro (even though it kicks my butt)
[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I’d probably rank them:

  1. Sekiro - I don’t think there’s a part of this game I don’t fully know all about at this point, I got so obsessed with it. While not as replayable, it probably had the most affect on me
  2. Elden Ring - it’s what convinced me to get back into FromSoft games, and that alone makes it special for me. It’s also the one I have the most hours in, and the one I’ve replayed the most. Super hyped for the dlc, a rare case where I’ll buy something day one
  3. Dark Souls - this’ll probably move up in the list once I’ve had more time with it, as I’ve only completed it once. Ask me in a year or two and it’ll probably be #1, but for now it sits at third place
  4. Dark Souls III - my most nostalgic for sure, and has the best second half of any game (other than maybe Sekiro), but the Ringed City and gamey bosses knocked it down several pegs. Still a fantastic game though to be sure
  5. Armored Core VI - I haven’t completed it yet so hard to put it any higher than here, plus the gameplay loop isn’t as satisfying for me as the rest (I think I just prefer melee games honestly), but it’s still an excellent game and I’m having a lot of fun
[–] urbanzero 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Midir is just Nameless King with more hitpoints. He's not too bad but his health pool and resistances make him a little boring. Not that the fight isn't worth it or not fun, it's just that you'll get in to a groove and then get complacent then you get to start over.

If you haven't tried a lvl 1 run on DS3 I think you would enjoy it. I am not great at these games but that lvl 1 run made me re think every area, enemy, boss and equipment setup. It's really freeing to not care about losing all your souls when you die.

I started with DS1 after trying the demo for DS2. I've gone through both games enough to have to delete characters in order to start a new one.

Then Bloodborne, which I did not like at first. But I did like the game by the time I finished it. After playing the full game with Old Hunters I was obsessed. It became my favorite game ever and might still be.

DS3 is chock full of fan service and I ate it up. DS3 is my favorite Dark Souls game because of the gameplay, settings, and all the callbacks.

Sekiro pushed Bloodborne out of the top for a little bit and it's still probably tied in truth.

PS5 Demon Souls was great and the best looking FromSoft ever. But it held no magical nostalgia for me and the mechanics are dated compared to the newer games.

Elden Ring was where I started to burn out. I've done a couple playthroughs and I enjoy specific parts of the game but I couldn't imagine going through all of it again.

My top 3: Bloodborne Sekiro DS3

And it really depends on what type of experience I'm in the mood for that determines that order.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I’ve never tried a SL1 run of any From game before. I might have to give it a go. I think I’d probably start with DS1 since I prefer it, but I’ll also try DS3 SL1 too. I do like the idea of not worrying about souls upon death. That sounds quite nice.

Man every time I hear about Bloodborne I want to play it more. I just really wish I had a PS4.

At the moment, I’d rank them: Sekiro Elden Ring Dark Souls Dark Souls III

Guaranteed DS1 will be #1 when I’ve played it a few more times though.

I’ve started DS2 and it’s… alright. Difficulty so far is more annoying than challenging, and it hasn’t hooked me yet, but maybe it’ll get there soon. I just got to No Man’s Wharf which is a pretty cool looking area at least, definitely my favourite in this game so far, so maybe it’ll start to pick up from here. I’ve heard that the Greatsword is found here which is exciting, I much prefer ultra greatswords to any other weapon type. I’m currently using a mace which is fine but I miss the reach. For context I just finished DS3 using the Zwei in early game and then the Fume Ultra Greatsword (which I’m also looking forward to eventually getting to use in this game, it’s probably a late game weapon though if I were to guess). I’m kind of surprised I haven’t found my beloved Zwei yet in DS2, nor my Baemore. Those are my two favourites from DS1+3. If I find the Zwei, I hope it’s as much of a pancake machine as it was in DS1

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Sekiro killed DS for me. Parrying and being able to stand against bosses toes to toes instead of having to roll around did it for me. I could hardly go back to DS.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Yeah that’s fair. Sekiro is probably the best game I’ve ever played, so I can definitely relate to your comment. I had a small break of FromSoft games between Sekiro and Dark Souls so that probably helped, I’m not sure if I’d be able to immediately jump between the two. I’m currently jumping between all three DS games (replaying the first one, exploring the second for the first time, and co-op with the third), if I added Sekiro to that I think it would be jarring for sure.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Very nice! I never played any from game until elden ring, I always play videogames with two friends that are obsessed with from software games, they were always talking about the elden ring imminent release and they stopped playing with me because thay made new runs in DS3 while waiting for elden ring! After countless nights hearing them having fun on discord, I finally decided to buy the game to play with them: that day, the specific day I bought it, the servers went down because of a security issue. They stopped playing because they wanted to play together.. I was so sad. Then elden ring came out. They gifted me the game on steam so we could play together! It was awesome, we played together like 80% of the game and, even if the multiplayer isn't perfect, we had so much fun. After that I had to play dark souls! Really enjoyed the remastered. Now Ds3! Bought it two years ago and I recently finished the main game! Ringed city it's your turn now!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Man, that sounds awesome. I really wanna do a co-op run but only two of my friends play it on pc and both are too busy/schedules don’t line up. Maybe one day.

Good luck on the Ringed City! I’m currently doing that too. Stuck on Midir, super tough boss for sure. Part of me wants to skip that fight, but I’m undecided. I don’t want a boss to defeat me if that makes sense. But at the same time I don’t wanna stop playing out of frustration. If you haven’t played Ashes of Ariendel I’d highly recommend starting with that one. It’s much less frustrating, and a fair bit easier too. Friede is an exception but other than that the dlc as a whole is considerably more friendly and should be played first. Plus it was released first too, so chronologically it makes the most sense as well

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Thank you for the advices! I will definitely go back to ariendel first! If you want to play some coop send me a direct message on lemmy and I will add you on steam/discord.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Sent you a message. If you get stuck on the dlc I’d be happy to come into your world and help with that too

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I started with 1 but around the time 3 released. I had it for a bit before I really dug into it, it hadn't clicked yet and I stopped for a while. Picked it up again, and it clicked. It clicked hard. immediately bought 2 and 3 when I finished 1, and then got the DLC for 3 upon finishing 2, before actually playing 3 and the dlcs.

Got Sekiro and haven't been able to make it last Owl. Waited a long time for Elden Ring and when that came out and I played the ever loving shit out of it and when I was finally starting to lose steam after a million times through, I bought a PS5 specifically for Bloodborne and Demon's Souls Remake. I blew through bloodborne easily. Actually felt the weirdest because I kept stumbling into secret optional areas while trying to find the actual progression through the main part of the game. Demon's Souls absolutely kicks my fucking ass. Furthest I've been is to the level with the skeletons. I haven't made it very far from the archstone and the world tendency change from dying made it even fucking harder. 😩

I loved the fight with Owl on top of Ashina castle. It was really hard until it wasn’t, and now I breeze through him every time. As soon as I got it, the fight became methodical. I hope if you go back to it, you find the same to be true.

Funny, from what I’ve heard, Demon’s Souls tends to be the easier one and Bloodborne is supposed to be pretty tough. Orphan of Kos and Ludwig tend to top the charts for SoulsBorne boss difficulty lists. I’m considering buying a PS5 just for Bloodborne and DeS Remake, like you did.

I seem to be the odd man out on what bosses are easy and difficult for the whole mess of 'em lol

I remember when I was going through DS3 the first time, people were really moaning about Nameless King. But by the time I joined the conversation, I had fought him so many times that when I did beat him, it was a flawless victory, and I haven't taken a hit from him since because his entire move set is seared into my mind. 😅

Sounds like my experience with the Twin Princes. Died so many times to them that my most recent attempt against them was flawless. Really cool feeling for sure.

I’m going to make an update to the bottom of the post but I’ll tell you here first, I powered through the rest of the Ringed City and completed it.

While I technically have beat Midir, the first time I managed it, one of the two random people I summoned was cheating and just deleted her. The only other time, was still with other players. She's the only boss I have never managed to solo. I don't necessarily think of her as being hard so much as irritating though, because I seem to have the shittiest luck with how she repositions constantly and she moves so far away, I never have the opportunity to attack unless I use some kind of ranged weapon. Spells don't usually go that far and the bows are trash for anything but pulling, so I basically never get to hit her unless I bring in other players to corral her.

Actually was wondering what's going on with Shadow of the Erdtree right now. They dropped the announcement in February and then just fucked off. lol

That’s fair. I want to be able to solo Midir, I nearly gave up soloing Kalameet in DS1 but forced myself to solo him a few more attempts and that’s what did it. I want to be able to do the same with Midir. I’m not sure how many attempts it’ll take though, Midir has been my toughest boss for sure
