“The boy stood on the burning deck, picking his nose like mad. He rolled them into little balls and threw them at his dad.”

Australia has trams? I thought it was all about the car there...

Melbourne still does.

Brisbane did…until we ripped them up in the '60s cos the mayor was a big fan of American urban planning and paved them all over to build stroads. I'm told that the extent of our tram system would, if left exactly as it was, would today be the world's 3rd biggest system.

Other cities like Sydney probably went through the same process of ripping out their trams.

Sydney I think recently put back in a new tram line? The Gold Coast and Newcastle have both over the last decade or so had enormous success with new tram systems.

But yeah, overall we have some terrible urban planning thanks to a period of car-centric planning through the 50s through 90s.

Melbourne literally has the largest tram network on the planet.

Oh yeah, we're basically tram capital of the world.

I had both books as a kid and I have no idea where they went.

I had these as well, but I feel like I was the only kid in my year aware of them and the books looked old when I had them.
