As an American so far woke has meant for us.

  • due process under law
  • the global trade system
  • our ability to retire

Just a word of caution before you get rid of those things too

[–] [email protected] 27 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

He already said he wants to use the notwithstanding clause to forego due process.

Sure, it’s murderers or whatever now, but when have governments ever stopped there? And why can’t our justice system deal with this?

[–] [email protected] 14 points 2 weeks ago

Every suspension of due process seems to have the same contours.

Pick a person that you can tell your followers is “obviously bad.”

Now, because they are so obviously bad it seems like it should be no bother at all to go prove that to a court. But your followers didn’t get into this cult for the critical thinking skills workshops.

And now you’ve got your due process loophole, everything is all nice and legalish. The followers will never find themselves caught in that loophole, no sir, they aren’t “obviously bad.” Oh a follower of the cult just got caught in the loophole, well they must have not been a real follower, they are retroactively obviously bad.

What do you mean I’m obvious bad, no I’m not?! I can prove I’m not bad, I have evidence that I said the right things, I thought the right thoughts, I hated the right people!!! When’s my day in court, I can’t believe the things they are saying about me!!!!

What do you mean get on the plane to CECOT?! I’m not a terrorist, I’m not in MS13, this is preposterous. You are only supposed to use this on people who are obviously bad…

He said he would only apply it to "multiple murderers" , then he'll define abortion as murder to apply this to anybody providing abortion services in Canada or supporting abortion. They aren't even clever with their evil plans, it's more transparent than glass.

Trump was pretty clear what he would do, and still people voted for him. Or failed to vote against him.

  • Mentioning the achievements of people without dicks or white skin.

Things that PP thinks is woke:

  • Healthcare
  • Women
  • Public transit
  • The legal system
  • Indigenous people
  • Taxes

Why did the Conservatives choose a child to be their leader?

[–] Not2Dopey 22 points 2 weeks ago

Don't forget gay marriage and equal rights. They are in the party platform as things to get rid of

Things that PP thinks is woke:

Climate, the CBC, "brown" people, the poor....

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 weeks ago

Stoke the woke. For a change.

[–] [email protected] 44 points 2 weeks ago

Reminder: "Woke is a slang adjective that can mean being aware of social issues, especially racial justice."

Conservatives wanting to "end woke ideology" is exactly why Canada should never vote for a Conservative government. We are so much better than PP and the Cons.

[–] [email protected] 33 points 2 weeks ago

They mean basic human rights.

[–] [email protected] 31 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He sounds exactly like trump.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago

But without the orange “charisma “.

[–] [email protected] 30 points 2 weeks ago

I've noticed you can basically replace "woke" with empathy (in various forms).

I've broken a few people out of the "anti-woke" cycle by pointing this out. It tends to work best on people who would be woke themselves, if it was presented in a different light.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Oh, but he HAS said what it means.

  • “diversity, equity and inclusion” (DEI) and “environmental, social and governance” (ESG) ideologies are garbage
  • Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre said Wednesday he is only aware of two genders — male and female
  • [when] asked whether he would ask the U.S. to recognize the gender-neutral “X” marker available on Canadian passports, Poilievre pivoted to talking about the cost of living instead
  • Poilievre vows to repeal environmental assessment law to fast-track resource projects
  • Poilievre told his supporters that the Liberal government had driven investment away from Canada by pursuing an agenda of "radical net-zero environmental extremism."
  • Poilievre promised to use the notwithstanding clause to impose consecutive life sentences on multiple murderers. The Supreme Court of Canada ruled in 2022 that imposing consecutive life sentences violates an offender's Charter rights
  • Introduced bill Defined marriage as a union between ‘one man and one women to the exclusion of all others'
  • Said Indigenous Peoples needed to learn the value of hard work more than they needed compensation for residential schools
  • Said wearing a niqab at a citizenship ceremony is "not in line with Canadian values."

And his actions since day one have backed this up.

[–] sbv 11 points 2 weeks ago

Said Indigenous Peoples needed to learn the value of hard work more than they needed compensation for residential schools

He apologized as soon as he got pushback. (Assuming this is the same one you're referring to)

In a lot of ways I think that's worse: he's an asshole until he's called on it, and then he hides behind an apology. It's right up there with "just a prank bro."

[–] [email protected] 23 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Just a reminder that if he loses and quits he's entitled to a $20,000 per month pension for life.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 2 weeks ago

Worth the price to keep him out of power. He'd send Canada down the route the US is going down.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 weeks ago

Ok.. that's better than him winning or losing and not quitting

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

He's going to rid society of an awareness of societal issues?

So he's running on Danielle Smith's and Ron DeSantis' (Trump Lite) platform still.

Woke is whatever scares me.

Without woke life will be like it was in the ‘50’s which is better then now.

The 50's was only better for white men. Everyone else suffered.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Even as a white man, I'll be happier living in a society where everyone else doesn't have to suffer.

None of us are free until all of us are free

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 weeks ago

“the true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members.”

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

I don't think it's about fear. I think it's about seething hatred and resentment. They have been made to feel stupid, intolerant, backwards, racist, etc. and Trump and the right wing billionaire owned corporate media have told them that they are right to be angry and resentful and definitely shouldn't try to better themselves in order to manipulate them into voting for fascism against their own self-interest and the interests of their wives and daughters and the country.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 weeks ago

Electing that shit ain't goin' so well for us down south here. Canada, don't let us down and make the same dumbass mistake.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

it 'means' literally taking a photocopy of donvict's playbook, converting to metric and translating to french where appropriate, and running with it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

donvict's playbook

AKA, the project 2025 playbook

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago

Losing election? There’s an unfortunately solid chance this goof wins. Prepare yourself cause there’s a fucky feeling in the air.
