Once again, it appears that a conservative has an epiphany when the harsh, Darwinian economic and social policies of his party affect him personally.

In case you didn't read the article, his disillusionment with the Conservative party, after having been a lifelong member and a cabinet minister under Stephen Harper, appeared when he had a severely handicapped child.

"Conservativism consists of one proposition, to whit; there should exist in groups that the law protects but does not bind, and out groups that the law binds but does not protect."

This remains as true as ever, and naturally leads to the corollary that conservatives tend to stop being conservatives when they find themselves in one of the out groups.

If they were capable empathy for people they don't identify with, they wouldn't be conservatives in the first place.

It’s certainly a different party now

Each candidate since Harper to not win had the party say they lost because they weren’t conservative enough

Similar to US conservatives, he only started noticing and caring when it started to directly affect him and his loved ones.

Thanks for this. So I have to pay if I want to download this and click the hyperlinks?

Anyone have a copy of this? Why would he post on this site if he wants his message to be read with links intact?
