Stop listening to his words and report what's actually happening, news media

[–] [email protected] 56 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He's the president of the most powerful country on earth. When his words are "I'm seeking a dictatorship" they are news.

[–] [email protected] 40 points 1 week ago (1 children)

he did literally get elected on the promise of being a dictator

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Got elected with a promise of being a dictator on the side. Not on the promise of being it. He got elected on the promise of abusing immigrants.

[–] zalgotext 5 points 1 week ago

No, he literally said he'd be a dictator on day one. He was very up front about it, and his base cheered him on

[–] [email protected] 42 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Exactly. Our media is absolutely spineless.

It should be breaking news, the US has fallen to authoritarianism. Trump is a dictator, etc.

They are not reporting the news accurately. But then again, the media currently serves the billionaire class.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago

This is one of those things were it is important to report on what he's saying tho.

Dude looks like grim death now. They'll already have to Weekend at Bernie's him from 2026-2028.

[–] [email protected] 31 points 1 week ago (4 children)

Even if old age gets him, Vance becomes the acting president, and he's every bit as evil while not being quite as senile. I highly doubt the MAGA cult is going to die alongside Trump.

[–] [email protected] 37 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Cults rarely survive a leader transition, especially ones based so fully around an individual rather than specific ideals. The cult will die, and the support will fracture, the underlying issues with the Republican party that allowed it will still be there.

Trump chose the most feckless, least charismatic person ever as VP specifically so he wouldn't show him up. He's evil, all right, but no way he'll be able to inherit Trump's cult.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 week ago

IDK they seem pretty darn unable to agree on anything besides how much they all love Trump. There's no Republican politician who is anywhere close to his equal. There is no obvious successor. Seems like a strong possibility of a power vacuum when he dies.

Naw, he's got at least another decade in him. His dad died at 93, and his mom died at 88. And that's without the health care they have today. I wouldn't be surprised if he lived into his 90s.

I understand one tactic is for him to serve as VP under someone else who promises to resign to allow Trump to serve again but he keeps saying there's also other options.

WHAT OTHER OPTIONS IS HE TALKING ABOUT?

[–] [email protected] 24 points 1 week ago (2 children)

one tactic is for him to serve as VP under someone else who promises to resign to allow Trump to serve again

According to the 12th amendment, "no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States."

This seems pretty plain to me: if you can't serve as president, you also can't serve as vice president. Of course, this has never been tested in court...

Just not holding elections due to some sort of national emergency is a tried and true method.

[–] zarkanian 4 points 1 week ago

No, he'll just issue an executive order that gets rid of term limits. Who's going to remove him?

Trump is inelagable to be president after their second term, the line of succession would jump to Johnson.

Never been tested in court tho so I'm sure it'd get by. But at that point why even care about the rules?

He's making a lot of noise about Zelensky not going to the polls. So ...

War, he's talking about taking America to war so strongly they can't have an election.

The supreme court has already ruled that the 14th amendment isn't self executing and congress is required to disqualify someone from being president.

The legal argument holds for any decision about presidential eligibility. So Trump can just stand and see if congress are brave enough to disqualify him in an open vote.

This isn't a boring dystopia thing. It's many things, but it's certainly not boring ):

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The boring bit is that I'm not the least bit surprised that he said that. other aspects of this dystopian timeline are certainly less boring.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 week ago

He's been saying this for months at this point, and it was part of Project 2025, which he seems to be following like a computer runs code.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 week ago

It's easy. Just refuse to leave and nobody will do shit about it except complain, as always.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 week ago

“The White House has become an adult day care center” Republican Senator Bob Corker

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 week ago (5 children)

That would take an amendment to the Constitution, which requires 2/3 of states to ratify. He has a better chance of taking it by force than by law.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Trump isn’t supposed to be able to assume office according to the constitution being an insurrectionist and all. The document doesn’t say a damn thing about total presidential immunity.

The constitution is meaningless.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That would only apply had our court system not failed us in convicting him before the election.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It’s not even a court anymore, it’s a bootlicker parade in wacky dresses.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago

Sometimes. It depends on the judge, which is a problem in itself, being that the law is not partisan. Boasberg has been working insanely hard to uphold the Constitution in his court. We should recognize the ones that put their duty above money or loyalty, and replace the rest.

Some guy pitched it as "Vance runs with Asshole as VP, wins then resigns. Asshole is prez again." Of course this requires Vance not having ambitions of his own.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago

Except he'd have to be Speaker of the House not VP. He can't be VP after this term according to the Constitution.

I said the same thing, but it turns out there is a weasely way around it. The 22nd amendment doesn't actually say you can only be president for two terms. The text actually says:

No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice,

to anyone here who is active duty military:

you took an oath to protect and defend the constitution of the USA. It's time to start protecting and defending the constitution.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

When has the constitution ever stopped him before?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

perhaps we should give the other constitution a crack at it.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago

If Trump can beat the USS Constitution in a 1v1 then he can run for a 3rd term. This goes for all future, unaugmented two-term Presidents.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago

I don't think "serve"is the right verb to use here.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago

Buy a gun.

Join or form a militia.

Conservatives don't, and never did, give a flying fuck about the Constitution.

The rest of us are going to have to.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Did they ask him why? I know he's wanting it, I want to know his justification for it.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Immunity from crimes. Always has been. Although the lust for power is bigly too.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

Immunity from crimes. Always has been.

Is he ready to say that quiet part out loud though? Actually nvm, he did. He just calls it "injustice"
