My coworker is an air force vet. I just told him, with zero context, "it wasn't the war thunder forums this time". He closed his eyes, sighed, and shook his head, then went back to what he was doing.

My guess is that people are nerdy and passionate.

There's going to be a lot of overlap of people who have access to the info and want to play that same tank/jet/boat/whatever in war thunder.

And when the game isn't right or someone is telling you you're wrong the allure of playing the forbidden knowledge card gets too enticing to resist lol
