The thing about Death Stranding I wanted to see more of had nothing to do with its core gameplay, but actually the side mechanic of being able to build things that other players could use. Like, we all love Dark Souls messages and how entertaining and sometimes helpful those can be. But there was something incredible about the design of being able to build a bridge that other players in other single-player games could also use. That was really special. The rest was kinda pretentious garbage and more-movie-than-game.

I loved being in a single player game and contributing to roads, bridges and stuff, and being able to yell out β€œMy names Sam!” Or responding β€œHey my names Sam too!”

Anon needs to go back and watch some David Lynch, because man, is that second paragraph weirdly on point.

I went back to catch up with Twin Peaks The Return after he passed and... look, it's awesome and hilarious, but... yeah, that fits.

Loved the scenery and music in this game, but you're basically a porter (delivery guy) running the errands all round the place with varying levels of difficulty. OK, but not amazing gameplay

Personally I really like it, in like a power washing simulator way.

The game was really close to being amazing. A lot of aspects about the UI were annoying. Having so many cutscenes and progress screens for every delivery was insane. Having to skip each cutscene individually was also odd.

Luckily they patched that you only get the BT cutscene once after a while, because the roads that went through BT turf were such a pain.

It's the weird and interesting story that's the main draw for me. The atmospheric emphasis is a nice touch too.

that sounds really boring actually

It's the kinda gameplay mechanic that I don't think can carry a game as long as Death Stranding, but I'd be very interested to see incorporated into something else. It's definitely the most fun I've had walking from one place to another in a videogame, but that's not really high praise.

do you take shits at least

How else would you get stinky grenades?

The trailers looked so cool. Then I watched gameplay and I was like β€œhard pass.”

It was a weirdly addictive game.

I didn't finish it and I've been meaning to go back to it, but the time I spent with it was pretty nice. You can't deny the sheer balls in making a AAA accurate walking sim.

It was kinda too scary for me. That's why I stopped playing, a bit after meeting Conan O'Brien I think.

I stopped playing too. I really loved the first part of the game when it was just about traversing the world, doing courier work and avoiding threats, but I quit when it became a game with 'boss battles'

I love the game, but there’s no more depth to the walking than holding both straps and slowing down on rough terrain. Ironically, Kojima always puts a lot of effort into gun mechanics and then goes out of his way to discourage you from using them.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

Something especially frustrating was that every gun had a blood ammo type for attacking BTs but the best method for nearly the entire game was to sneak and throw blood grenades instead. Then you get the cuff blade thing and the sneaking is still better. The only real depth to it is that I learned you can intentionally trigger the fights to farm chirillium.

It’s the only game that has ever made traversing the world fun to me. I really enjoyed it!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago

Lmao the gameplay was the good part. Everything else was ass.

I gave up on this game because there's a ton of reading, and the graphic/hierarchical design was atrocious. I think it actually gave me a headache.

Edit: I remember now, it wasn't just reading text, it was every aspect of the UX menu design. Metric tons of useless info and also terrible organization. Fuck, this had to be the worst design I've encountered in a long time.
