A sane version of this is "tuna noodle goo," i.e. cream of mushroom and canned tuna over farfalle. Ideally with peas. Ironically you could not have done it justice in the 1950s because canned peas were garbage compared to frozen.
The most whitebread recipe I'd sincerely recommend is ranch noodles. It is exactly what is sounds like. You douse fresh macaroni in ranch dressing. Which, remember, is buttermilk, dill, garlic, and a bunch of minor spices. It's two-ingredient pasta salad, and once chilled, it is better than it has any right to be.
