I was especially fond of M&M 6 7 and 8 as a kid. I have also played the most recent, 10, which while different and flawed in many ways, was still good enough to be enjoyable. I have also liked things like Wizardry 8 in the past.

I did try to replay 7 recently, but I thought that it has not maybe aged too well as the combat was too grindy for my current tastes.

Can anyone recommend something similar perhaps?

Maybe a little late, but 4 & 5 (which you can combine to one bigger game) is still fun. You can run it with ScummVM even on your phone.

Older: King's Bounty

Newer: Songs of Conquest

Edit: Never mind, I thought you meant Heroes of Might and Magic.

Edit2: Maybe Legend of Grimrock? There is also a sequel.

Songs of Conquest is fantastic

Legend of grimrock cannot be paused, can it?

I had seen it getting played, but somehow I think this turns me off. Optional pausing for issuing commands would be perfect, but real time only would be too stressing I believe.

But I'm willing to try if recommended enough.

It's pseudo-realtime; things happen on a tick, but that tick is pretty generous in timings and you can pause the game at any point.

Thanks, I'll give it a go then.

I think you just hit the pause button? If you're in a safe area it doesn't matter too much though. I didn't play the old might and magic games, but Legend of Grimrock 2 has some of my favorite gaming memories from adulthood. The puzzle aspects are some of my favorite parts of it so idk if that says you one way or another.

I haven't been able to find anything that quite scratches the same itch but you might want to try might and magic merged, which combined 6 7 and 8 in a fairly fun way, fixes a few of the issues, and rebalances the game to not be quite as grindy. It's a mod running off the mm8 engine.

This sounds great, I will look for it and give it a try! Thank tou.

I bought Might and Magic 8 and brought it home. There was only the play CD and no install CD. Never been so disappointed when buying a game in my life. I bought the game during a trip and couldn't easily return it.

TLDR: I love Steam

If you're okay with some emulation, there's Dungeon Master and Captive.

The first Wizardry got a remaster last year with some quality of life updates.

Huh that's interesting, thanks for letting me know. I'll check it out.

Maybe Valbrace in UFO50?

Edit: what about Barony?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

Thank you Barony seems quite interesting, and I'll keep it in mind. For the current moment, though, I would like to scratch an itch of something with a proper campaign instead of a roguelike. But seems up my alley for later.

A remake of the arcomage game from the inn in MM7 is available for Android. It's called archmage lite. It's not what you asked for but if you enjoyed it in MM7 you'll like this too.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

Archmage was indeed very nice!

Age of wonders 4 is fairly similar. It might scratch your itch.

Might & Magic != Heroes of Might & Magic
