I hope Canada and Mexico don’t blink in the face of this stupidity.

As a Canadian, I will gladly give up my quality of life if it means Trump gets fucked.

There's nothing for us to do that would constitute a blink. It's not like there are specific KPIs around border security he wants us to hit. We have to impose retaliatory tariffs because there's literally no other option.

How about we implement the response before his deadline? Then maybe he will rethink bluffing in the future.

Although he probably isn't bluffing, we will see tomorrow I guess.

If the president does choose to implement any tariffs against Canada, we’re ready with a response – a purposeful, forceful but reasonable, immediate response. It’s not what we want, but if he moved forward, we will also act,” Trudeau added.

I'm glad to see Canada standing up for themselves, but unreasonable people cannot be swayed by reasonable action.
If he wants to make a difference it's going to actually have to hurt.

I've already stocked up on maple syrup 👍

Of course, I was stocked up before Trump got elected but still...

What will really sting, though? They won't say sorry afterward.

Unfortunately Canada is in a position where anything they do is going to harder on them than it is on the US

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It was a joke. Saying sorry is like Canada's number one stereotype.

But if you want an alternative joke: What will really sting, though? Their response is in English and French.

Yes, but also being the reason for most of the Geneva conventions. We may be polite, but we also invented the sport of strapping knives to our feet and getting into fistfights over a frozen lake.

My statement also applies to not apologizing, it goes against their very nature
