Nonviolence is a social agreement. If you don't promote violence against others, neither will I promote violence against you.
Since that premise doesn't hold for Nazis, the conclusion doesn't restrain me either.
I roll my eyes real hard when moderates oversimplify to just "violence". As if genocide and defense against genocide are morally equivalent in the slightest.
It's a coward's way to sound principled while pretending state violence isn't violence.

I don't know where you are but in America a "liberal progressive" is understood by most of the population to be someone pretty far left. In far left places on the Internet (socialist groups, Marxist groups, anarchist groups) a "liberal" is a person that supports capitalism. So lefties hate liberals.

I don't want to speak against my hero but people have been locked up pretrial for the entire history of the country. I'm not defending the practice really, it's just innocent until proven guilty refers to the trial part.

The point of not dehumanising them isn't to spare their feelings, nor to avoid "sinking to their level", it's because dehumanising them removes their responsability and accountability for their own actions, as well as ignores the systemic nature of the issues we're facing, making it entirely counterproductive.
They very much ARE people, people who are choosing to harm other people for their own gain because we live under systems, invented designed implemented and enforced by people that actively and deliberately encourage them to do so, for the ultimate benefit of said hand full of people.
Rabid dogs have no choice, they are not responsible for their actions, they have no way out of their condition, and ultimately when they die, unless they bit another animal, the problem will not persist, none of which can be said for nazis.
Nazism is a self chosen path. They're choosing to ignore basic human instinct for cooperation to feel better about their own inadequacies. They're dehumanizing themselves.

βOne of the core tenants of neoliberal education is that violence is always wrong, it's never the answer, etc. They repeat it so often and in so many places because it's at obvious odds with the state. They use violence against us so often and on such wide scales that their only option is to convince that it's not violence.
Over producing with limited resources is violence. Throwing away food while people starve is violence. Leaving buildings empty while people die of the cold on the street is violence. Preventing the sick and dying from accessing healthcare is violence. Evicting people from their homes is violence. Depriving the chronically ill and physically disabled of the means of survival because they can't generate capital for capitalists is violence. Climate change is violence.
The truth is that they deeply fear what we would do if we actually recognized all those things as violence. They do literally everything in their power to prevent us from achieving class consciousness. They have infected literally every single facet of society in an effort to keep us from seeing each other as human.β
