Tbh i am not a fan of any of those points:

• Free from Manipulation: Malicious actors can still make dummy accounts to influcence scores and there is also nothing inherent in the system that truly prevents manipulative content

• No Censorship. No tracking: Censorship can still happen on a instance basis through bans or defederation, althought those are also necessary tools for other reasons. And no tracking imo also is missleading, simply because everything posted here is public (including up/downvotes), there simply isn't true privacy in a public forum. It's better in that it doesn't follow you around to other websites and such, but still putting it so difinitive is wrong.

• True freedom of speech: Kind of overlaps with the "no censorship" part i think.

What the fediverse is to me is:

• Diversity and freedom of choice

• Resilience against central control

There is a certain "if Jim from up the street can read it, everyone can" factor.

But, on Facetube or Youbook, they know how long to the millisecond something is on screen, so not only what you've posted yourself but what you've paid attention to and how much. They're watching you even when you think you're not transmitting anything.

Their failure to do so is inherently their statement to the decentralised nature of the fediverse, that being „Fuck you people, we are the next reddit, and y'all are just trash”.

For creators, the best choice is probably to post parallel, distributing your content on as many platforms as feasible. That way, you reach even people who only have one of those, and also lower the migration barrier for consumers.

More problematically, nobody was getting paid to Reddit, But Instagram, YouTube and TikTok are some peoples income, and they really don't have any strong inclination to leave paying platforms. A lot of the truly wild viral content is coming from people trying to make a living out of it.

We are going to have true social interactions on the fediverse. But without algorithmic discovery and paid performers, a lot of people aren't going to come over. And honestly, I'm just fine with that.

I do wish we could get a solid foot in the Facebook door. There's an awful lot of semi-private data there that people aren't getting paid to post that could be free of big media pincers and wallets.
