This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

MODERATORS

Even though that piece of information can be verified by other credible sources (like NBC News). This is a news post they personally didn't like.

This is not the first time this particular mod, who has self-proclaimed to "hate biggotry" but seems to be more about "love censorship", has done something similar.

They seems bothered by the source of the article, not the content. I know you reposted it from NBC and that's still up, from which site did you post the article when it was taken down?

[–] [email protected] -1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I didn't post the original, but it seemed fine to me:

that’s still up

That remains to be seen, I've posted it after I posted the info here, so only a few minutes.

I had nothing to do with the original post, except that I added some comments on the post and saw the same mod show their disagreements by continuing the discussion in a modlog note thus making it impossible for me to reply.

Never heard of ndtv.

You did kinda go off on an anti religious rant in the comments which is kinda weird, but I don't think it's power tripping as long as the NBC article stays up.

Doesn't seem weird to me. It's a law allowing pedophilia in a country run by people who belong to a religion that was founded by a pedophile.

now do the Christianity please...

Their anti-abortion policies are just so that the women they rape can't "kill" their kids. They wouldn't have to worry about that if they just stuck to altar boys.

thank you daddy!

just preempting "iTs RayCISm" crowd...

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Neither did I. The removal was kinda obviously in response to the comments by me which the mod already deleted and then they had to have their final say in the modlog reason for removal. But well, if you don't see it as power tripping, nothing I can do.

Maybe I'm missing something, but why not just directly post the NBC article rather than the NDTV?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Well, I didn't post the original article.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago

Ah, that's what I missed!

YDI.

any frequent poster to news communities knows they all have very specific rules for sources and credibility. this is an absolutely normal practice.

Even though that piece of information can be verified by other credible sources (like NBC News)

Then they should post the NBC News article. They weren’t banned I presume? They have every opportunity to learn and try again.

This is a news post they personally didn’t like.

At this time you have provided no evidence of this.

Thanks! Didn't know about those.

Edit: Seems I knew about [email protected] as I'm already subscribed but that community is empty. So probably some federation issues, or is it really empty?

Edit 2: Nevermind, I always forget I can check the community at its origin server.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Thanks! Didn’t know about those.

They come up more and more as it seems like every few days there's a thread about LW World News

It's the benefit of being able to have a central comm where people can post about these mod actions.

We need to create a scoreboard with which comms have been most accused of having PTB and what percentage of those accusations have been verified by the community votes. And then provide potential alternatives to each, so that you don't have to be in every comment section linking people :D

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago

I like that!

I'm lazy and just trawl through c/all most days, but it would be very nice to see the most pernicious PTB miscreants and maybe avoid the subs they mod.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago

Yes, I was thinking about the scoreboard too 😅

I wonder if ~~it was the same mod who decided to remove my Kim Jong-un Bans Hotdogs post~~ (just checked on mbin, it wasn't). In that case it wasn't "low credibility score" but just "rule 3". I was able to get it restored by contacting a mod who was active and who was surprisingly chill about it, but if it's getting removed because they don't like it, they already achieved their goal by removing it's visibility while it was getting traction. At least you got it back up in a new thread.

Incidentally, how do you know who did it? Activity? Setting up your own custom instance to bypass the censorship? There may be a bad actor, although in their defense, there is plenty of brigading regarding certain articles trying to get mods to succumb with whatever mud sticks.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

I'm an admin of my instance, I can see the names in my modlog. Or I could see them in the database directly.

I don't think they're a bad actor, they're just so anti-bad-stuff they accidentally went a little to the bad-stuff territory themselves. Kind of like a clueless tankie.

Edit: If you send me the post link, I can try checking if it's the same mod.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

I just saw that the names show up on mbin, another thing it does right. After checking, I see that it isn't the same mod account. Thanks for the offer though.
