The Rugrats Movie had no right being such a masterpiece. Rugrats in Paris wasn't far behind.

Rugrats is a really strong depiction of realistic family dynamics. Lots of interesting stuff in the background. Also one of the best representations of a modern American Jewish family on television, I grew up in a mixed-faith situation as well and the Pickles felt incredibly relatable.

realistic family dynamics

True

whats funny is the grandparents had to be taken off tv because people found them offensive...

they were literally modeled and acted like the creaters own grandparents

I grew up in a rural southern baptist community with zero Jewish kids, Rugrats was literally my first introduction to Judaism that wasn’t through an evangelical Christian lens. So I’m glad that it wasn’t a terrible representation!

All I remember is the one where they are crawling around some shitty Route 66 diner and service station unsupervised while Stu pores over the entire menu and then eventually decides on, of all things, the fucking Patty Melt.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 17 hours ago

I love patty melts from shitty dinners, myself. I guess I'm in the minority on that one. 😋

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

i did that once. nearly shit myself later cause of it. bad idea

Man totally didn't remember this episode.

Edit: It's from the episode Mother's Day. I do remember the episode, but not this detail. Maybe because the main focus was on Chuckie or I was too young to understand how serious Tommy's situation was.

Yeah, was this episode made in the 21st century, like after The Movie/All Grown Up? I have no memory of this episode from the 90's.

He’s a newborn but look at Didi's waist. No fucking way.

[–] [email protected] 29 points 1 day ago

Never noticed Didi's got it going on.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 1 day ago

It's worth a revisit just to hear all the jokes that went over your head.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

His mom is also stacked, good goddamn!

[–] Mouselemming 15 points 1 day ago

Well she just had him, the colostrum is in. The unrealistic part is her waist.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Where is there any indication that he was premature?

[–] [email protected] 39 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Incubators are used for newborns that need extra support at birth. He's not necessarily premature, although it's a common reason to use one.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh, I was under the impression that all newborns were incubated.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

Congratulations! You're one of today's lucky ten thousand

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 day ago

The kids in an incubator

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago

I never realized Tommy Pickles was ~~premature~~ STRICKEN WITH MENINGITIS

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago

I almost remembered them feelings like as if I was a little kid again
