Slide was my favorite Reddit client. I'm glad it's being resurrected to serve a greater purpose!
Slide is the very first Android app that pulled me away from Reddit is Fun until Slide got abandoned. To see it resurrected for use on Lemmy would be a dream. I loved Slide interface. Was the app I preferred over Apollo too on Apple aside from the performance issues it didn't get sorted out before being abandoned, which led me back to Apollo.
So glad to see former reddit third party developers and apps rising to the occasion! I sincerely hope that the Infinity devs and other FOSS initiatives are coming onboard too.
I'm here for it!
iOS?
Nope
I not sure if it's the right place for suggestions, and I know you didn't ask for any, but I hope you don't mind.
If possible, it would be great to have option to add custom instances, and to add the option to 'force' it to add the instance, even it the app thinks it's not a valid instance.
On Jebora and Lemmur, you can add only some of the instances (the app probably checks a list or smth). Both of them don't let you to add new instances.
Thanks in advace for your work man, really looking forward to it :)
E: some of the new instances
Wow, that was fast. I love that there's a lot of interest in creating apps for the fediverse.
Ohh yes!! Here we go. Slide was the App that started my Reddit Addiction. Best interface imo. Used it till a few weeks ago.
Awesome! Where do we sign up for updates?
Nice
I'm so excited to see my reddit app ported! Take my money!!
Wow, I remember having slide like a decade ago, I think. That'd be absolutely beautiful.
Slide had been my favourite Reddit app.
Will you consider making Slide for Kbin? There seems to be numerous Lemmy clients being developed, but lacking for Kbin.
I will! So far, the reason for that is thst Kbin doesnt expose any kind of API, so any app has to scrape the site, but I would definitely aim for dual compatibility eventually, especially once an API exists
Looks great
I never used slide. What do people like about it?
I really like it has buttons to jump to previous/next parent comment. It made skimming top comments a breeze.
The concept of swiping was used everywhere. Makes it quick and easy to use. You could just swipe right to close a thread, or the video/image. No need to use the back button, or reach for the tiny X in the corner.
And the seamless galley mode was awesome. Very unique (only found it quite similar in Joey).
Custom color-coding of subs was nice when you scrolled so far you forgot where you were.
I liked that it was available from F-Droid.
There were a couple of other Reddit clients also available from F-Droid (Dawn, Diode, Infinity, RedReader), but I don't remember why I picked Slide over those. All I know is that I didn't spend much time evaluating others and that Slide was "good enough" to not annoy me into wanting to switch.
I mean... What are the chances?! Unbelievable :D thank you, one tester eagerly awaiting :)
Great minds think alike :)
If you arent aware, there is a community at [email protected]
Thanks for pointing it out! Was not aware.
I'll wait for a FOSS app. Redreader supposedly will support Lemmy in the future.
