Summary

Broward County State Attorney Harold F. Pryor plans to vacate up to 2,600 convictions tied to a controversial 1988-1990 sting operation in which deputies sold crack cocaine manufactured by the sheriff's office.

The Florida Supreme Court ruled in 1993 that such practices violated due process, but many convictions remain on record.

Some individuals faced harsher penalties for buying drugs near schools.

Pryor, supported by Sheriff Gregory Tony, aims to right this injustice and assist affected individuals in sealing or expunging their records.

Some individuals faced harsher penalties for buying drugs near schools.

So cops made drugs, sold them, chose to sell them in a location that has higher consequences and criminal charges, and then convicted the people they sold it to

Sounds like entrapment with extra steps

Sounds like manufacturing with intent to distribute.

Sounds like the prison industrial complex working as intended.

Extra steps as in taxpayer dollars used to generate illicit drugs not for research purposes.

The charges should be transferred to the cops who sold crack cocaine close to schools.

A headline that starts with "Florida prosecutor" that isn't a crime against decency?

[–] Imgonnatrythis 4 points 1 week ago

Seems destined for failure don't it?

Knowing the cops, it was probably low quality

There was probably a fair bit that went to some cops to "test" so quality was probably actually half-decent.

Somewhere in a firepit in hell, Reagan is extra sad.
