Why does this look more like a receipt from my auto mechanic?

The Fulton County document, first reported by Reuters, includes Trump’s name and lists the case status as “open.” It’s dated Aug. 14, and timed-stamped 12:39 p.m. The document lists 12 felony counts and one serious felony count for violating Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations, or RICO, Act. According to Reuters, charges have not been filed against Trump.

IANAL. It sounds silly to me too have felonies and "serious felonies". All felonies seem pretty serious to me!

Apparently "serious felony" is a real thing in Georgia. Regardless.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

In this case the serious felony requires a minimum of 20 years in prison

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

Another way to rank them how other states have first/second/third degree felonies.

Kind of like how burglary is a bad, but not as bad as murder or rape.

16-10-20 - given that we're all learning about Georgia law tonight, it was fascinating to read that they also have a "lying to the government" law like the one that so many people cite in federal cases

I'm concerned that they will use this leak to somehow claim a mistrial since the charges were leaked before they selected the jury, and they'll win the appeal.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

Exactly!! this is what I was thinking! i can totally see him using it as a way to get out of trouble. he always does

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (3 children)

is this a strategic leak to further spin the accused out of control? more rope?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I doubt that. It's government bureaucracy, people make mistakes, even the court.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

i am just worried this mistake could lead to a mistrial

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

you're probably right. but I like the idea of it being a strategic move to troll the orange turd enough to disregard your comment.

don't take my idle fantasies from me.

I'd bet it was automated.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Probably just some clerk getting too eager to finally put the screws to the old, stupid windbag after seeing how far ahead of schedule they're running.

The fact that he'll spin out even harder is a bonus.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

The government automate stuff. That's funny, (fed)

I like that this post appears to have negative one downvotes. It's not a bug, it's a feature.

Sometimes Lemmy is a silly little thing.

I'm gonna make my own social media platform that has up and down arrows that generate random numbers next to a message like "At least some people probably like this." And if you post too frequently a banner appears at the top of all the pages with your IP address. Also viruses. Just lots and lots of viruses.

You could have down votes too but it means you're down with the post, so it's a good thing.

What about side votes?
