I've just been using the same brand of socks for ~15 years 🤷♂️ I just get like one pack every year and have never had to match anything since. I also have never understood the fancy-/patterned-sock craze, so that's a non-issue.

An unofficial chapter of the popular Dull Men's Club.

Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

I had this system for a few decades - I only owned identical black socks with a few white and grey stripes at the top. Any two socks was a pair.
It was unfortunately ruined by a well-meaning present, then destroyed when the shop they used to come from closed down.
Now I live in sock chaos.
I've been using the same couple packs of the same sock for almost ten years I think. I never walk in them without shoes, wash on delicate, have fine some really minor repairs on two or three socks, and they still look fine. Just regular puma socks, I dunno why they have lasted so long. It makes me unreasonably happy NOT to buy new clothes.
That's because you lost both of them

Pairing socks, and subsequently finding them paired when you need socks is severely underrated.
