An unofficial chapter of the popular Dull Men's Club.

https://dullmensclub.com/

1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.

2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.

3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This is not a search engine
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.

Some other communities to consider before posting:

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

6. No hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

I've created a new Lemmy instance at dullsters.net

When I created this community several months ago I had no aspirations of it becoming much of anything. In a short amount of time it has grown to over 1500 subscribers and is one of the top recommended non-political communities. I am always looking forward to the posts that are shared here, and the unique culture being developed.

I see the importance of the decentralized aspect of the Fediverse. We frequently see drama surrounding moderation and federation policies. None of that applies to the content in this community.

I have no qualms with admins running their site the way they want to and they are often placed in difficult positions. However, this is one of the true places of neutrality on the Fediverse and it should remain that way.

In the few months this community has existed there have been maybe a half dozen moderation actions taken. You have remained, for the most part, very dull, and I thank you for that.

The name of the community should be changed, I hadn't realized that dull men's club was the result of someone else's ideas and work. The new name should represent this community that you all have created and the place it exists, The Fediverse.

The new instance won't have any users except for the purpose of moderation, you will still use your account from a federated instance. I'm still ironing out a few wrinkles with the site, it should be done whenever I get around to it.

In the meantime suggestions for the new name should be made in a top level comment so that they can be voted on.

Thank you all once again for making this community what it is.

This is a tad embarrassing. You see, I thought that I was merely copying a popular Facebook group. I was unaware that Dull Men's Club was an official club. Please give the site a peruse as it is quite a delight!

I'll only eat three of these and save the rest as snacks for other days. I'm currently losing weight so this is just an easy way to curb my appetite.

Fill a pot with water, add salt and bring to a boil. Add eggs and cook for 7 minutes. Remove eggs from pot and place in cold water until cool. Peel and eat with prefered seasoning. Enjoy!

It's a 2011 Kenmore entry model dishwasher. Broke one of the shitty brittle leveling plastic feet off pulling it out, now it's on a chunk of wood.

Here's the twist: This was last month. My roommate and I promised each other to inspect old plastic containers better. Yeah neither of us remembered, so there's another broken bit of plastic stuck in the pump again, making a concerning racket.

Honestly the filter cylinder is a bad design I should fix that. There's no reason the top should be so wide open to stuff falling from the top rack.

But now I'm kinda seething and want the thing to die.

The middle chunk of plastic is tomato sauce pigment impregnated. Very cool.

My past four days have not been dull. Today was. Shrimp scampi leftovers are not to be trusted after the third day.

Yesterday the handle to the freezer door broke off in my hand as I was openning it.

I've had it for 10 years so it did laat a while.

I was able to find and order the part online from a local vendor and to my surprise it arrived this afternoon (ordered last night around 19:00).

I looked up the instructions and almost laughed at how simple it is. Installed in less than a minute.

Very satisfying!

That's it. Just never done it before and it took under an hour. It's easy to do. Buy some cleaner and watch a YouTube tutorial.

We got some shelves built by a local carpenter, and they just needed a bit of polish; so they have now been attacked with white spirit, a little bit of wax filler, and some stinky oily stuff. Hopefully they'll be dry tomorrow and I can put some DVDs on them.

I have been getting beaten down between 24/7 job uncertainty with the bad engineering market right now, a full-strip house renovation, and not sleeping well.

Yesterday renovation with my girlfriend's family I hit a breakpoint of just going numb after the 3-4 hours of work I put into building the bath frame has to be shortened by 2cm to get the tiles flat that I wrongly calculated because my brain doesn't work anymore. Like 50% of the work has to be redone and half of the holes through the tiles carefully redrilled.

Today I actually took a day off just working on my personal electronics project. Just a nice, sunny day playing with our dog, doing a bit of gardening and actually enjoying the day instead of just going and going renovating or working or going to social events. I really needed it. Back to the grind tomorrow.

There was a wind storm two years ago that broke a huge chunk of my tree and left it hanging on. You could probably hang off it and it would not come loose, we tried getting it with ropes but it was wedged in tight between some branches.

Since it was broken pretty high up, surrounded by burdock, and at the back of the lot I just left it.

Today I was helping my wife in the yard clearing the weeds and this time one of the branches pinning it snapped, so I was able to use another branch as a fulcrum and finally took it down.

I’ll cut it up and burn it later — if there’s any good wood I might try carving some.

Before in main image. After below there's still a bit to clear on face of the steps but I didn't do it yet. Also cleared a bunch of brambles from around the Pampas grass but there's loads to go.

We dont usually have rats inside. It must have wandered in during the day. Theres a lot of them outside.

It was big like a squirrel. If it had a fluffy tail you would want to pet it.

Most days I receive zero packages. Two is so extravagant as to almost not be dull.

It's a short book.

It was my first time doing it and it went well thanks to some help from my neighbour.
