An unofficial chapter of the popular Dull Men's Club.

https://dullmensclub.com/

1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.

2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.

3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This is not a search engine
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.

Some other communities to consider before posting:

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

6. No hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

The current community here on world will stay open. I have no plans of shutting it down unless the community decides it should.

Thank you all again for creating such a wondetful place,I look forward to seeing the community continue to grow.

I've created a new Lemmy instance at dullsters.net

When I created this community several months ago I had no aspirations of it becoming much of anything. In a short amount of time it has grown to over 1500 subscribers and is one of the top recommended non-political communities. I am always looking forward to the posts that are shared here, and the unique culture being developed.

I see the importance of the decentralized aspect of the Fediverse. We frequently see drama surrounding moderation and federation policies. None of that applies to the content in this community.

I have no qualms with admins running their site the way they want to and they are often placed in difficult positions. However, this is one of the true places of neutrality on the Fediverse and it should remain that way.

In the few months this community has existed there have been maybe a half dozen moderation actions taken. You have remained, for the most part, very dull, and I thank you for that.

The name of the community should be changed, I hadn't realized that dull men's club was the result of someone else's ideas and work. The new name should represent this community that you all have created and the place it exists, The Fediverse.

The new instance won't have any users except for the purpose of moderation, you will still use your account from a federated instance. I'm still ironing out a few wrinkles with the site, it should be done whenever I get around to it.

In the meantime suggestions for the new name should be made in a top level comment so that they can be voted on.

Thank you all once again for making this community what it is.

This is a tad embarrassing. You see, I thought that I was merely copying a popular Facebook group. I was unaware that Dull Men's Club was an official club. Please give the site a peruse as it is quite a delight!

A surprising amount of cat hair, I think I need to brush her more. I just kept pulling balls of felt that had once been cat hair out of the workings of the scroll wheel.

It feels sooo much exactly the same now.

The lock button on my car key fob hasn't been working for ~ 6 months. I was looking at buying a new key fob for between $9 to $35, but something told me to take it apart.

Some isopropyl alcohol, a used toothbrush, and 5 minutes later I discovered some kind of sticky blue goop had infiltrated my key fob. After a quick brush down and slight emersion of the lock button, my key fob is now working again.

This previous Saturday, I decided to try out my new battery powered 8" mini chainsaw. I was very stupid, and ended up holding a branch that was too small to stabilize it so it could cut it off. Of course, the saw bounced and hit the hand holding the branch.

I got two 1-2mm deep chunks taken out of my index finger knuckle, and a deep flap cut into my thumb. The weirdest thing was that it really didn't hurt; I was just annoyed that blood was everywhere.

Here I am nearly 4 days out, and my thumb is almost completely healed, and the deepest cut on my knuckle is only like 2 days from being completely healed over. The only part of the whole process that hurt was putting pressure on everything immediately after cleaning it, and putting the liquid bandage on my knuckle (it's acetone based).

I'm actually slightly concerned about my pain threshold, because I cut open my shin on a server rail yesterday and it really didn't hurt either.

This abomination is a cheap chinese RV diesel heater. My garage is fully insulated except the door which is maybe a future post. Throw out the garbage fuel line that comes with it PSA. Worst manual I've ever read too.

That concludes my dull Sunday. Sorry to the neighbour pool kids for the smoke show when I misunderstood how long to prime the thing.

Put on some Blancmange - Mange Tout, this is quite tedious.

I bought a shitbox Chevy Impala two years back as a cheap commuter. I've been avoiding putting any money into it, because this thing is beat.

Well I finally caved and put four new tires on it yesterday, and all I can say is wow! The car drives a million times better.

I drive very little so I only need to change it annually. 2100 miles in a year.

While I was under there, I shot some rust converter on the worst spots. Just holding back the inevitable, though.

I know it’s a 20-30 min job. But I went at a relaxing pace. It took about an hour, maybe and hour and a half.

Couldn’t find what was squeaky in the front suspension, though.

My bed had been squeaking every time I moved on my side and I'd wake my partner up every time I'd get up and get back into bed.

So today I took off the mattress and fastened all the screws and those round ikea things all their stuff has. It's now much better but the backboard still makes a small sound but I can't figure out where it's coming from.

I've been hosting a Tarkov server for some friends (SP Tarkov with FIKA). I also set up a headless client to run the AI calculations and WOW it is RAM hungry. The server froze several times after running out of memory.

Just upgraded from 4x8 to 4x32 GB.

Pretty much the title. It's really weird to scratch my chin and not run my fingers through hair. As a plus, my five year old keeps telling me "you look like a completely different person. But I still know you're my daddy!"

I'll only eat three of these and save the rest as snacks for other days. I'm currently losing weight so this is just an easy way to curb my appetite.

Fill a pot with water, add salt and bring to a boil. Add eggs and cook for 7 minutes. Remove eggs from pot and place in cold water until cool. Peel and eat with prefered seasoning. Enjoy!

intentionally not showing photo because its always super gross in there. its cleaning like 10% better now. #worth

It's a 2011 Kenmore entry model dishwasher. Broke one of the shitty brittle leveling plastic feet off pulling it out, now it's on a chunk of wood.

Here's the twist: This was last month. My roommate and I promised each other to inspect old plastic containers better. Yeah neither of us remembered, so there's another broken bit of plastic stuck in the pump again, making a concerning racket.

Honestly the filter cylinder is a bad design I should fix that. There's no reason the top should be so wide open to stuff falling from the top rack.

But now I'm kinda seething and want the thing to die.

The middle chunk of plastic is tomato sauce pigment impregnated. Very cool.

My past four days have not been dull. Today was. Shrimp scampi leftovers are not to be trusted after the third day.

That's it. Just never done it before and it took under an hour. It's easy to do. Buy some cleaner and watch a YouTube tutorial.

We got some shelves built by a local carpenter, and they just needed a bit of polish; so they have now been attacked with white spirit, a little bit of wax filler, and some stinky oily stuff. Hopefully they'll be dry tomorrow and I can put some DVDs on them.

Yesterday the handle to the freezer door broke off in my hand as I was openning it.

I've had it for 10 years so it did laat a while.

I was able to find and order the part online from a local vendor and to my surprise it arrived this afternoon (ordered last night around 19:00).

I looked up the instructions and almost laughed at how simple it is. Installed in less than a minute.

Very satisfying!
