Coffee tonic is amazing. It's the kind of combination that sounds terrible until you try it, and then you can't get enough.

A local coffee shop was doing an espresso tonic this summer. 16 oz glass filled with ice, tonic water, double shot of espresso, and a shot of blood orange syrup. It was incredible.
Sounds interesting! What are the ratios you use?
I usually do ice, a double shot of espresso, and then fill with tonic water.
I do ice, fill it 3/4 with tonic and the a double espresso amount of coldbrew on top.
I had never heard of coffee tonic, but I love both coffee and tonic, and it's rolling into summer here. I am absolutely going to try this!
Sounds good. Love the fever tree stuff.
What does not having an espresso machine have to do with resorting to buying bottles cold brew though?
Next best flavor?
They have two types of ginger beer - there is a lighter one that isn't full of sugar which is really good by itself or as a mixer.
Yes, I can't get an espresso shot at home but cold brew is also the next best thing, it doesn't have those bitter flavors in it which you often get with hot brewed coffee and which don't mix well with the tonic. You want something fruity.
But you don't need an espresso machine to make really good cold brew.
Yeah, that was not the point. I just mentioned that I don't have espresso machine so I need to do something else. The something else is cold brew, but because I'm too lazy to make it myself I bought a bottle of it instead :)
Interesting, you like those bubbles? Any more that you can describe the taste?
The bubbles don't bother me; like a nitrous cold brew. But quinine in coffee? Eww.
The bubbles are nice, a bit like a alcohol free coctail.
The flavor I would describe fruity, like if you have a black coffee which has low bitterness but high acidity and then you up it a bit with a little bit of sweetness and tardiness. It works very well.
But I tried to do it with coffee which I brew hot and it was not tasty. A good espresso as a base is best, but second best I found is cold brew.
Tart grapefruit juice with ice in summer is also the bomb!
