I don’t think they need a name change to encourage anyone.

If numbers of consumers have dropped it’s because the little bag went from $1 to $2.50 since 2021. It’s why I don’t buy them any more. I haven’t checked the jumbo carton lately. Used to be $7.

I believe my wife and kids now snack on cheese flavored turtle crackers for this reason. Couldn't tell you the brand, I think its from Aldi (I can't eat them so not 100% on the name, but they are definitely turtles)

Bet money they’re at least 10.99 now.

Those cartons are $14 now. Occasionally on sale for $7-8

These used to be my go to snack until the price kept skyrocketing and the carton kept getting smaller.

I've got a better idea: lower the price and people will start impulse buying them once in awhile again. I routinely see these tiny bags for FIVE DOLLARS. It was not long ago that I'd pass on a 4/$5 deal on them because I treated myself to the same deal two weeks prior

Chilean Sea Bass Crackers

Hmm, sounds fishy.

Definitely a temporary thing to drum up some attention, guys. Stop taking it so seriously. I give it a month at most.

That’s the stupidest name I’ve ever heard. Even Joey Joe-Joe agrees.

LIMITED EDITION GOLDFISH CRACKERS. Alright fuck this, I'm building a guillotine. Fucking hell.

"Chilean Sea Bass Crackers"

That's not an idiotic joke?

what a terrible idea.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I think it’s just to get some viral marketing, get people talking about it, and it’s working

[–] Varyk 1 points 1 month ago

yeah, it says it's temporary, but surely they could have come up with a funner/cooler name, even for grown-ups.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 month ago

those things get more disappointing every time i try them

Patagonian Toothfish crackers. Chilean Sea Bass is itself just a marketing term.

Non American here, I have no idea what these are but see them mentioned a lot - what are they? Are they crackers, sweets or biscuits?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Cheese flavored crackers molded in the shape of fish. Very salty.

It's a cracker, but fairly iconic due to the shape. Very popular snack for toddlers/young kids. They're fairly tiny, so not as big a choking hazard. They go back to the 60s, so many of us have our own fond memories of them as children. As an adult, I still find them fun for their shape, but Chez Its, or at least the Aldi knock off I get, are much cheaper, though less exciting visually.

Ah I know what those are, that makes sense!

Surely this has to be just a silly temporary marketing stunt like when IHOP changed their name to International House of Burgers. I did see some Franks Red Hot flavored goldfish at the store though, and those are clearly not targeting kids.

It literally feels like an out of season April Fool's joke. Felt like it would be better if they saved it for April lol

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago

I think what will be equally fun is the various pronunciations that will arise. "Lemme get dat SHY LEEN!"

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago

It’s goldfish… for night

Eh, seems like a dumb quasi smart meta marketing move. See sales slipping amongst the older crowd, change the name of their favourite childhood snack to something stupid to get people talking about it and thinking about it, now suddenly they're buying them when they see them on the shelf again.

It will almost certainly work, and yet people still think that free will exists and that we're vastly more intelligent than our pets when we trick them into eating.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Yep, I think you've got it.
