Some 400 rockets were launched onto Israel on Tuesday night by Iran, The Jerusalem Post understands, following rocket alert sirens that blared throughout the country.

So far, 4 people were reportedly killed during the aerial attacks, and there have been two direct hits, one of which was in Tel Aviv.

Iran launched the wave of attacks after the IDF announced on Monday night that it had begun limited ground operations in Lebanon.

Good job Israel, you've really managed to piss off everyone in the region.

I mean... that happened in the late 40s but especially peaked in the 60s.

...so far.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

@[email protected] Yeah, because before 7th of October IRGC and Israel had perfect relationship

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

In fairness that happened in 1948 and hasn't really let up since.

[–] [email protected] 49 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Alas, it seems there are no winners anymore. Just sides. I don't suspect this will end well for Iran in the long term.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 month ago

I dont think it will end well for Israel either tbh.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (3 children)

I'm on the side that doesn't kill anyone.

[–] [email protected] 41 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I don't think there is one of those in this conflict.

The people that kill other people. They shouldn't do that.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Where did you learn this galaxy-brained level state craft?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 month ago

Here, of course.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Would you have either side capitulate? Would you come to the aid of a side that was attacked? When would you begin intervening?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Why don't you just make your point? I made mine and it's killing is wrong.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (2 children)

So, Warsaw ghetto uprising during WW2 when subjugated poles rose up and began killing their nazi prison guards. You would call this a both sides is wrong situation?

And if not, I see no reason for you not to consider the palastinians with the same ideals as that of the poles.

And if so, I respect your pacifism.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Why do I have to choose sides to believe that killing people is wrong?

I see your point with WWII, but that's not this situation. I would personally never kill anyone, it's against my ideals. No fire burns that hot inside me.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I get that, like I said, I respect the pacifism, but can you at least not accept the validity of self defence in the face of genocide? Even if you were to accept that you yourself never could bring yourself to that? I took don't believe I could kill a person over it, but I do not blame those who have been pushed to that point of that makes sense

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Self-defense, non-violence are clearly not the same thing as pacifism. I can agree to that. But then the view of victim can be awfully grey. And thank you for not being rude and trying to understand without judgement.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Don't give this bad faith actor the opportunity to claim they're anything more than the whataboutism troll that they are.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Great fantasy world you live in.

So if somebody does kill someone, we should not hold them accountable?

Or the victims should not seek justice, should not retaliate? Should wait for someone else to seek justice for them? When would you find yourself willing to intervene?

You don't support yourself or come off as rational, and can only plug your ears, bury your head in the sand and ignore the world we live in.

My point is you're ignorant or lying in bad faith.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

Whoa, chill out. If you think I'm wrong for saying killing people is wrong, you need help. You could slice me limb from limb, but you can't stop violence with more violence.

If violence worked, why has this area been warring for so long?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Remind me how they stopped Hitler.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Remind me how long the conflict in Israel/Palestine has been going on. More bombs doesn't seem to end it.

I think you'd be an unreliable ally at best and a coward towards anything that doesn't effect you personally.

If you were anything more than a voice on the Internet our relationship would be put to the wind.

I would love to see your evidence of any non-violent society existing for any period of time. I don't need to hack you limb from limb to stop violence, I also don't believe violence has a single ignition point, and it's obvious you do

Kumbaya yourself under the Russian Pontoon bridge you crept from under you faithless troll.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Whatever you have to tell yourself to justify killing people in your mind

Am I the only one who thinks of this as a political play between Israel and Iran?

When Israel hits a target, I don't hear about it till I see the damages and the casualties.

When Iran tries to hit a target, I hear about it several hours when it's in the air and it still did not hit anything, and the next day I hear that every country around Israel had shot some of the missiles fired, and Israel themselves shot down the rest.

It feels like Iran just wants to demonstrate that they have the expertise to shoot missiles, without actually shooting anything that can cause a real damage.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

If they have fired hundreds of missiles, it's clearly an attempt to overwhelm Israeli air defense.
Of course assuming the reporting we receive is true.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

According to this article:

(They reference IDF, so they might be wrong, but assuming they are correct)

Iran shot 180 missiles, and Israel intercepted most of them.

So far, there is official information about two injured citizens in Tel Aviv.

I don't think this attack was significant in any means.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

180 missiles is A LOT. It takes a very strong air defense to resist that.
It's bigger than the biggest Russian missile attack on Ukraine! Where an attack by Russia with 158 missiles and drones combined caused 31 dead:
https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/russia-launches-massive-air-attack-ukraine-least-10-dead-kyiv-2023-12-29/
31 dead and drones are way easier to shoot down than missiles.

This looks to me like a very serious attempt by Iran to penetrate Israeli air defenses.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

A successful attempt, too. There's videos of multiple missiles making it through, though fortunately they seem mostly to have landed in large outdoor spaces.

I don't know if we know if the missiles were proper guided missiles, or just dumb MLRS-style unguided rockets. I'd imagine it's both, but that's the important factor in if Iran was just flexing their capability while minimizing damage, or if this was a serious attack.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Wait, you mean you don't telegraph your "surprise attack" a day in advance to everyone?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

We have till January next year before a full scale war in the middle east. Till then Israel will continue with genocide and it's belligerence. And other countries will keep on posing.

[–] didnt1able 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It won't be war. It will be a series of small scale incursions. The word 'war' is bad for business.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

Not for the millitary industrial complex. It will just b another proxy war like the one in Ukraine.

As is shown by history, USA will not send troops to there is an attack on its soil. Though it will support both the sides if possible.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Desert Storm, Korea, Vietnam all seem to disagree with what I understand that second point to be. US will send troops if it is politically expedient.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Desert Storm was instigqted by the probability of having costlier oil if the war spreads to other oil producing countries. Plus it did hurt US by having oil rations and costly oil.

Having said that I would agree that Korea and Vietnam war was more due to cold war and not due to attack on US soil.

[–] didnt1able 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Ukraine is no proxy war, those are Russian troops. Iran is pulling a proxy war using Lebanon and the various funded groups who carry out attacks on Israel. Iran grabbed that one from ol' uncle sams playbook.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Ukraine is a proxy for America and Europe in the fight against Russia. And both of them are not for ending the war quickly. There is much more they can do.

[–] thearch 8 points 1 month ago

I'm scared for all the citizens involved in this. I really hope this will end soon, but I don't think it will...

Just for you - https://www.irishtimes.com/world/middle-east/2024/10/01/israel-and-us-promise-sharp-response-to-iranian-missile-attack/

The only reported fatality was a Palestinian man who was killed when a rocket hit the West Bank town of Jericho.
