I would've bought that too, and it would've improved my opinion of the base game. I thought Trevor and Franklin were potentially really interesting, but they needed more story time to get there.

As it stands, GTA V is my least favorite GTA because there just isn't enough character development.

GTA 5 is one of the worst easily, as someone who really doesn't give a shit about multiplayer, there really isn't much for me to do in it lol

I only finished it to stop that nagging feeling that I'm missing something. I wasn't, but at least I rolled the credits so I could finally uninstall it.

I reinstalled it a few times before finishing it, never felt tempted once I did. It's just... not that interesting. I love GTA IV, SA, and III (III is mostly nostalgia), and I'll probably play each again. I'm not going to bother with V. I hate the characters, especially since I think at least Franklin and Trevor could be interesting, the plot is boring, the side content is lacking, and the world isn't that fun to explore. It's pretty, but bland.

Mm, GTA III's protagonist was basically on a conveyor belt going wherever the last person to talk to him sent him.

Yeah, but at least it was a relatively new concept for a game, and the protagonist was at least likeable.

Then again, I think I like it largely because of nostalgia.

I don't think so. I can still remember missions and dialog from 3. 5 is just too much stuff. I don't know how to explain it. I never liked the 3 character stuff just removed any and all immersion.

Previous GTA you were playing and living a character. 5 you're running errands for no particular reason.

Yeah, the goal of "pull off the biggest heist" isn't particularly exciting for me, especially since money is never an issue in the game.

GTA III and IV are about immigrants who are looking for an honest restart to their life and get pulled into a life of crime. They rise through the ranks so they can get enough power and influence to knock out their masters and truly be free. GTA SA is about trying to do what's best for your neighborhood (friends and family), then you get betrayed and seek vengeance, again to do the best for your family. Those are good reasons to keep playing, since the player has an emotional attachment to the goal.

V's goal of getting rich by pulling off a massive heist isn't particularly interesting, especially when there are only a handful of non-replayable heists in the game. I honestly don't want Michael to succeed because he's such a dick, I just want him to go away so Trevor and Franklin's more interesting stories can play out. But the game ends right after the big heist, and that's just lame. Neither Trevor or Franklin went into the game wanting to pull off a big heist, so their story arcs seemed woefully incomplete.

So yeah, V is the most disappointing from a character and story perspective. I'll probably replay the earlier ones, I'm not going to bother w/ GTA V.

I am in agreement with you, while I have my own tier list for GTA Games, I do find myself wanting to replay San Andreas and Vice City Stories more than 5.

I will argue that if I was just going for a GTA game to goof off in (like flying around in a Tank and Hijacking military vehicles), GTA V has more toys within it's map.

Fair. I just generally don't want to goof off in a game, I want a bit of substance. When I wanted a GTA-like game and Rockstar hadn't made one for a while, I played through the Saints Row series. Yeah, it's kind of fun to go cause mayhem, but I get tired of that after ~15 min or so.

If that's what you're looking for, GTA V is pretty decent.

Ditto and I prefer Saints Rows 2 & 3, over most of Rock Stars newer GTA offerings.

It's really hard to blame them. Making a full ass dlc and trying to sell it for 40 bucks is work. Selling shark cards is not. It's their own fault.
