Luddites don't hate "technology" in general, they had (and have) specific targets.
Meanings change. People don't usually refer to the specific group of political dissidents worried about the cotton gin when they say it. Just like if you were to call an authoritarian dickcheese a Nazi.

I worked in telecom for years, and recently left because my company decided to automate out a bunch of positions by using their shiny new AI. It suggested carrying 300 Amps at 50 volts (DC) several hundred feet with 14 gauge cable. (Electricians, go ahead and laugh.)
I went back to school, learning IT support. Most of my classmates are fresh out of high school, and they're all using Chat GPT like my generation uses Google. But instead of googling the answer and then figuring out how to make it work and testing the results, they just stop.
Chat GPT says to use this config? They use it. Of course it doesn't work.
Over and over, I have classmates asking me why their Copliot generated code isn't giving them the right answer, or why their server process is failing to start.
I fear for the safety of a world where the tech support is provided by people who never learned how the tech runs, never learned to read, test, experiment, fail, and try again...

tho im definitely on the side of the good ais, i know exactly what you are talking about. Had a guy begging me to go over his code, which he had gotten from chatGPT, which didn't work. Was extremely annoying. Like all my effort learning coding myself is so I can troubleshoot this guy casually asking chatGPT whatever not wanting to learn coding himself.

Proud luddite here. The original luddites destroyed machinery owned by capitalists which threatened their jobs. The choice was either destroy the machines, or stand by and become unable to feed your family while a rich man gets richer.
I have no opposition to technology which is used for good, and whose control is placed in the hands of the workers. Your self-hosted AIs are fine, although I do ask that you only use energy intensive processes if you have solar panels. After all, this planet is the only one we've got. At our current rate of pollution, soon the world will only be inhabitable to AI.
But I downvote anything promoting corporate AI designed to replace people's jobs. I am all for replacing human jobs, if the humans get to relax and live comfortable lives afterward. But I am against replacing jobs if we choose to have a society where you need a job to live. That's not nature, it's a choice we make as a society. The minute you automate someone's job, you do necessarily admit that society doesn't need that person's work to get by. The only reason they shouldn't get to put their feet up and take it easy is political. And politically, we have decided instead what happens is they die. That's unacceptable, and until it changes, we can't afford to have job replacing machines.

I think this doesn't seem right. If society did not need that labor there would be no need to automate it. The work needs to be done but the one who needs it does not want to pay to get it.

Yeah that's the way it was before their job was automated. But now you don't need them to work.

I do believe the term is "luddite", or "luddA.I.te" if you want to be hip and cool.
Tbh, luddite fits really well considering they only became associated with being Anti Tech once they started burning down Lace making factories since the advent of the Lace machine started taking high paying craftsmanship jobs away because a machine could produce what they did for cheap. Which, is as close to a perfect match as you're going to get in the real world
