Carnivorous plants ain't chompin on bugs just for the clout, they got legit reasons to mess up those insects

They grow in weak ass soil that has no nitrogen. Carnivore plants be out the grinding. Gobbling up mad insects to get some N

So you're telling me, they kill beings because they are bad at proper due diligence while soil scouting?

[–] [email protected] 18 points 7 months ago

They didn’t want to abandon the industry that was killing them

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

They can't live in soil that's got what they need because the nutrients burn the plants' roots. They got so specialized for nutrient-poor bogs that they can't live anywhere else.

Would you rather leave that soil barren? At least something grows on it now!

Now I know that carnivorous sponges exist.

The more I learn about what else lives in the ocean, the more I’m thinking y’all need to not tell me about what’s in the ponds here.

There's a reason why we got the fuck out of there.

Wtf is a carnivorous sponge? Actually, maybe don't answer that. I don't need more nightmare fuel in my life.

[–] [email protected] 28 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Sounds like they mostly exist miles deep in the ocean, where tiny scavengers are a more stable food supply. So like carnivorous plants, they evolved carnivory because they lacked alternative sources of nutrients.

[–] jballs 16 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Cool, I will do my best to avoid them.

Don't think you really need to do your best forr that. Just don't go deep sea diving.

I'll see what I can do.

AFAIK SpongeBob is not vegetarian.

According to series animator Vincent Waller, "there is absolutely no meat in the Krabby Patty. There's no animal product in there", something which was always planned by series creator Stephen Hillenburg.[9]

...

he stated that there is no meat served in Bikini Bottom except at the Chum Bucket.

Definitely not, according to the Bikini Bottom Horror.

Aren't all sponges carnivorous (or at least omnivorous) since they're filter-feeders?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago

Apparently the term is reserved for sponges that aren't filter feeders but are kinda sticky like velcro and catch stuff that way.
