The NFL community on lemmy.ml has a head start so I'd recommend everyone subscribe there and let this one die.

Last I saw about 20 minutes ago Lemmy's has like 10 followers and ours has like 40

You're right. Whichever community is better will win. Maybe that's us.

FYI apparently when we browse lemmy.ml from this instance it's not fully up to date on the subscribers or anything. So [email protected] actually has like 250 subscribers rn even though it shows up as 21 subscribers on my browser. If you check on browse.feddit.de it gives a more accurate number.

Thanks for the heads up. maybe we should use that one after all then.

Yeah by my count [email protected] is 3 times bigger than [email protected]. But it's also not a matter of life and death, people can subscribe to both or neither, whatever they want. We just have to make sure people are aware of all the communities, and they will decide which ones are enjoyable and which ones are lame. Just gotta let the community form organically.

Thanks for this post. Agree with @Cows (is that how we cite here?) that it's all still a bit much to wrap our heads around!

Seems like the hardest part of this migration is going to be identifying where each community will end up coalescing so everything doesn't become overly fragmented.

I'm just one or two steps ahead of you, I'm still figuring it out myself. I think right now it's definitely annoying to find communities, but in a few months it will become much easier. Once certain communities get big, it should become common knowledge where to find them. There is actually a tool at browse.feddit.de that I used to find the other nfl community. You can go there and search for anything to see if there is a community for it on another instance.

Sounds good I’m wrapping my head around this still!

Great start. I hope to see more former redditors join the federation!

If anyone cares, I joined lemmy through sh.itjust.works instance on lemmy, downloaded jerboa for lemmy app, and I'm searching "NFL" and all the teams to try and build a community.

How do we subscribe to NFL on lemmy.ml while also being logged in here?

[–] smokinjoe 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

So I've created an account on lemmy.world but I can't subscribe to [email protected]? Or even this place if I don't have an instance account? Am I missing something?

[–] imaqtpie 3 points 1 year ago

You're probably following a link that directs you out of lemmy.world and onto lemmy.ml or sh.itjust.works. You need to go to lemmy.world, where your account is logged in, and search [email protected] or [email protected] in the search box. Then you should be able to subscribe

Yes,please consolidate.always consolidate.i am so sick of new communities constantly popping up in my feed after I've blocked identical ones from other instances.
