Unfortunately, this is not as big news as it should be. As the article said, they already own a news outlet in Texas. Their news network is only going to grow. No one will be able to stop it.

7. No duplicate posts.
If a source you used was already posted by someone else, the autoMod will leave a message. Please remove your post if the autoMod is correct. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners.
The auto mod will contact you if a link shortener is detected, please delete your post if they are right.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

MODERATORS
It's good to know which publications are owned by who so you can spot patterns in what they report, but also so you can filter them from your feeds when you feel like it's not worth the effort.
Oh for sure. And this needs much more notice so people can do that.

That would be awesome, but when I'm suggesting it needs a lot more attention, I mean every news service that isn't owned by Chevron needs to give it some.
Agreed, sending it to some of the more hungry and left leaning news orgs would probably be a good start, like The Daily Beast, Mother Jones, The Daily KOS, The Atlantic, Rawstory, and the New Yorker, these outlets like digging into stuff like this.
60% of emissions in the area are from the refinery. The local air district isn't willing to do anything about it - they just released a plan for the area that is full of already planned commitments for other pollutant types, but has nothing other than vague goals for anything to do with the refinery.
Imagine the same thing but for a whole province
