alt-text: there’s laundry to do and a genocide to stop. I have to eat better and also avoid a plague. my rent went up $150. I’ll need to pick up more shifts. Twenty people died in Rafah this morning and every major news outlet is stretching the limits of passive voice to suggest whole families may have leaped up through the air at missiles that otherwise had the right of way. I just got a notification that my student loan payments are starting up again and my phone isn’t charged. My cousin got COVID for a fourth time and can no longer work or walk or even feed himself. The person across from me on the L train seems to fashion themself a punk rock revolutionary, but they’re not wearing a face mask, and that’s the kind of cognitive dissonance that makes me want to steal batteries. Fascists keep winning primaries for both parties, and I think I gained a few pounds. The CDC just announced there are no more speed limits on highways, and I think this Ativan is finally hitting. The NYPD farmer’s market only sells bad apples, have you heard that one? Listen it’s warm today, too warm for March. But I don’t have time to think through the implications because there’s laundry to do and a genocide to stop.

Ooh I like this. Let me upvote it so I feel like I’m making a difference while I sit here dreading existence

[–] [email protected] 31 points 8 months ago

You're making more of a difference than I am. I'm not even going to upvote OP post and I'm just going to sit here and do nothing. I mean I might get up to pee in a minute.

Fascists keep winning primaries for both parties

Fuck off.

[–] [email protected] 40 points 8 months ago (19 children)

You’re in the right. Doomerism that “both sides are just as bad” is what Republicans want people to believe. Did Biden lead an insurrection? Not that I’ve heard of. Thinking both sides are just as bad is a childish perspective.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Both sides can be bad in my view. We are at a point of choosing the lesser of two evils.

One side is literal fascist and the other no longer represents us

Although your best option is Biden and I wouldn't say otherwise even as someone not receiving any benefits from his good internal policies, Biden still is a fascist.

He has been a practical one, by which I mean he mixes good domestic stuff with genociding halfway across the world, whereas the Orange Jello is a principled one, having done and still aiming to very bad domestic choices and genocidal fascism at both domestic and international domains.

So yeah, fascists keep winning primaries for both parties, but you still have a choice to pick the international fascist over full-time fascist.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 8 months ago

international fascist

"Fascisms is when you kill people!". Joe Biden is a lot of things that leftists do not like, neoliberal first among them. Saying he's a fascist is absolutely asinine and has no basis in reality. You're watering down terms that have clear definitions.

Reminds me of Matt Buchele (mattbooshell) 's video "disorienting times". Bouncing between atrocity on social media and you boss wants you to fix a typo on slide 3.

The insta that followed that one for me was this one, and this is singularly the most legendary thing I've ever seen another human being do

Could you give context for us who would rather not go to a facebook site please?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 8 months ago (1 children)

I will describe it, literally.

A man on a tiny motorcycle with a microwave on his head, closed covering his face, comes to a screeching halt in front of the camera, opening the door as he does. This reveals his face and a complicated mechanism to keep it on his head. He stands using the momentum of the motorcycle to propel him up and says, angrily "I know a lot of you hatin' motherfuckers want me to fail, but guess what? It ain't happenin! You know why? Cuz I got a motherfuckin microwave on my head!" He leans over to close the door, remounts his tiny motorcycle, and scoots away in to the city.

I have no idea what this is meant to mean, but thank you for going to the effort of typing that all out XD

You can't fix it. Turn off the news. Go for a walk.

It's true that everything is shit. But everything has always been shit, whether you cared about it or not. And we're all still here.

The only difference between caring and not caring is that now you're miserable and anxious. And there's still nothing you can do.

Living in ignorance is hardly healthy though. You'll only be caught flat footed when the bad shit finally catches up to you. How long that takes is a matter of luck and privilege, for some people it's sooner rather than later.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Sure, but if you can't compartmentalise the stuff that effects you from the stuff that doesn't, then it's not worth sacrificing your mental health over most of it.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 8 months ago

More importantly than the stuff that affects you is to focus on the things you can change. A friend of mine was in AA, which is a whole can of worms that I'm not going to delve into, but one thing I really like was the Serenity Prayer. I'm an atheist, but I like the thought anyway. It goes

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Do what you can, so when the end comes you know you did your part. Go vegan, ride a bike, vote left, shop ethically. It does a lot to curb the unease.

Before I click, I'm going to guess "Whitey On The Moon"?

Edit: Did not disappoint. I wanna give credit where credit is due.
