A month ago my friend, I’ll call J, saw my ring and asked where it’s from. I told J the brand.
Last week, me, J, and another mutual friend, Bill, caught up. He saw that both of us were wearing the same ring. I didn’t notice until he pointed it out.
It’s just a simple gold band with a stone embedded into it but bc of the formal style, Bill asked if the two of us had something going on.
J said “I had this ring forever, maybe OP wants to make it look like we’re a thing!” And laughed.
I was annoyed and let J know of my annoyance and told Bill that’s not the case. J said I’m “being sensitive and can’t tell a joke for a joke.” J left us and Bill commented he once thought we lived together bc it looked like we shared clothes (we don’t).
I don’t have the capacity to psychoanalyze J or why they lied to Bill about the ring. If J really had the ring forever it seemed odd not to say so when they asked me where I got mine.
Sure I could ask J but I have a feeling I won’t get a straight answer. What are your thoughts if you’ve ever had a similar experience? What’s up with J?
Tldr: friend buys the same ring as me and tells other mutual friend they had it forever making it sound weird as hell.
