News and Discussions about Reddit

Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

Yeah reddit sync is slowly dying.. many links give me a 404 error

Hopefully at some point they will break completely, and people will be so annoyed by the official app that they'll start looking for alternatives.

Sync on Android for Lemmy is also giving 404 error to me for the last 4-5 days. I have been using Jebroa instead, which is not as good in my opinion...

Here is a lift of all the Lemmy clients: https://lemmyapps.netlify.app/

For Android, the usual recommended are Voyager, Thunder, Connect, Eternity, Raccoon (sorry if I forgot any)

I use liftoff... Are these others better? There weren't but a couple options when I first got on lemmy...

Liftoff is awesome, but it's not compatible with 0.19 so any post from instance with latest update will not load. I switch to Boost and while it has problem, it's awesome too.

Well that's a fun way to find out my client is borked :)

I’m using Memmy, Voyager, and Mlem.

I started with Memmy, but then started favoring Voyager, which was said to be the closest to Apollo in functionality and design. Then i noticed that Voyager always omitted comments from a certain instance, so I’d only get one side of the conversation, so I switched to favoring Mlem, which I’m really enjoying at the moment.

Now that I’ve given it a try, I think that I would continue using Mlem even if Voyager fixed that particular issue. It has a really nice level of polish and hasn’t had any issues with crashing, unlike Liftoff or Thunder, which I’ve dropped completely.

Can you explain more about this Voyager comments issue you are experiencing? Voyager should not be hiding any comments.

When browsing comments on Lemmy, I would see what looked to be top-level comments that were clearly replies to another comment, but the comment it was responding to wouldn't be displayed. After this kept happening, I decided to try viewing the thread through another app (i may have been using an account from another lemmy instance, which I'm guessing may be pertinent) and then I would be able to see the actual top-level comment that was being responded to.

Ahh, yeah different instances will do it, especially if it was Lemmy v0.18 vs 0.19.

Regardless I’ll keep an eye out. Thanks for the write-up!

Liftoff's main dev is busy with real life right now so development is on hold. Other options are quite good, it's mostly up to personal preference

Eternity, also known unofficially as Infinity for Lemmy is another good one. It functions the same as the Infinity for Reddit client but for Lemmy instead. It's still early in development but it has gotten much more stable.

Hey, it's you again!

More seriously, they just mentioned above they were not happy with Jerboa, which is why I didn't mention it

I didn't notice that but I never had any issue with Jerboa.

Hey, it's you again!

Now, I also remembered you.

I would look into this. I use Sync for Lemmy and haven't been running into any 404 errors.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

Yeah, sorry, actually 401 errors

Haven't had issues yet. No big ones anyway.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

Very odd, it's been working fine for me, aside from embedded videos

I've been using Connect for Fediverse stuff and I love it.
