Excerpt: Towards the end of World War II, U.S. intelligence officials were afraid that the German dictator would flee Germany by assuming a disguise. By 1944 the world identified the man largely by his trademark toothbrush mustache and oily side-slicked hair, so they ordered his portrait to be cloned.

The Office of Strategic Services (OSS), an early version of the CIA set up during World War II, asked Eddie Senz, a New York make-up artist, to produce the altered portraits after D-Day on 6 June 1944. Despite fears that Hitler would attempt to flee Germany, the portraits were never needed.

Middle top row looks like George Bluth Sr.

He may have committed some light genocide.

Guess Who? Nazi Edition.

“Does your dictator wear glasses?”

TIL that Hitler without a mustache looks like HP Lovecraft.

[–] [email protected] 28 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Not racist enough to be Lovecraft

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 months ago

When you run for president, someone will dig up this comment and go to the media about that time you said Hitler wasn't racist enough.

HP Lovecraft looks like mark Zuckerberg...

[–] [email protected] 15 points 8 months ago

That's a good call. Especially since they both have roughly the same amount of empathy and understanding of humans.

Lovecraft looks like he’s hiding a bird in his mouth

Bro I was about to comment the same thing

There's always money in the banana stand.

This made me realize that I wouldn't recognize many historical persones without the signature makeup 🤯

Bottom middle still looks too much like Hitler. Bald with beard would probably work best.

That guy who shot him was always going to recognise him though.

[–] Classy 5 points 8 months ago (3 children)

How common was the bald+beard look in the 1940s, though? Might be have stood out more with an unusual hair style than by going with something more commonplace?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

Good point.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

It was common enough to be listed by the US government

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago

Also common enough for there to be a Batman villain with that look during that time.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 8 months ago

But he probably went to South America with all the other surviving Nazis. As long as he isn't recognizable as Hitler it doesn't really matter if he stands out a little bit. If that did happen he probably didn't have to leave his house because all the Nazis would have served him hand and foot

[–] [email protected] 15 points 8 months ago

Bottom left and bottom right would have fooled me.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 8 months ago (1 children)

over his dead body would he tolerate looking like any of these

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago (2 children)
[–] [email protected] 9 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Because he shot himself (allegedly)

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

I thought he took cyanide pills after using them on his dog

Edit: seems like both, busy guy

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

he's quoted saying something like that. something like he would shoot himself before allowing Russians to capture him

[–] [email protected] 14 points 8 months ago

Top-right is the Clark Kent approach.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 8 months ago (1 children)

It's so interesting to see what an impact that little beard makes.

I'd have never thought of Humphrey Bogart as a potential actor to play Hitler until I saw that lower right one.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 8 months ago

Upper right is Michael Palin. Maybe this explains why Monty Python did so many Hitler sketches.

Si claro que lo conozco, estuvimos juntos en Argentina mucho tiempo.

[–] pelespirit 3 points 8 months ago

He had a combover thing as well, huh.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago

He could look like anything, I think that’s the conclusion

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

He definitely should have went with the last option from the get go. Can't go wrong with that style.
