How do I go about reporting an online pedophile? I only have his face picture. He says he's not from USA but from his writing style and the terms he use I think he is. Pls don't flood the post with questions about the story, I will make a full report to the authorities.

If he is from the states, FBI report is probably the way to go. I don't know much about making that report but it's probably a good place to start. If you have more specific location details than reaching out to that areas local authorities would be the next best bet.

I believe I filed my report a few years ago through the Cyber Tipline: https://report.cybertip.org/

A local FBI field agent got in touch 2-3 times with questions and updates. They weren't ultimately able to find anything actionable, unfortunately, despite ostensibly looking into the account.

I guess there's some international framework to catch them, so they can follow on leads and maybe forward it to other agencies.

I did a quick search and found this: https://www.europol.europa.eu/report-a-crime/report-illegal-content-on-the-internet

Not sure how helpful that can be. You should report it to the FBI just in case. They may be able to pass that information along to the Interpol or something.

Reporting is good, but don't expect immediate action. At least, that's how it is with cyber crime. They need solid, water proof evidence (they basically need to catch them in the act) to catch someone and unless you can povide that, they'll likely just put it in a folder. Unless that folder get's pretty substantial (when others report this person too) not much more will happen untill there is time, money and reason to investgate it further.

This is my experience though with cybercrime, maybe they're more actionable with pedophiles. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

How do you know the face you have is his?

[โ€“] seriousslayerguy 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Fair point but what I learned is horny people do stupid stuff and can't think clearly.

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This sounds like an oddly specific manifestation of the act of not thinking clearly (assuming they are horny or that it's making them not think clearly).

I have no idea what you just said.

You said horny people do stupid things and can't think clearly. To have the face of someone you didn't anticipate is a weirdly specific outcome of not thinking clearly. There are of course many ways that not thinking clearly can play out.

It would be like saying "mice are are always hungry, therefore one will absolutely be interested in the cheese on my mousetrap". It might not be a cheese lover. It might've just eaten. It might know there's a trap there. It's just a very slippery-slope-esque statement.

Damn duuude that's deep.

I would submit the report to the highest law enforcement agency in your respective country (ie: FBI) and they can probably take care of it.
