I don’t agree when people say Rice should be made captain as a way to criticise Odegaard. Rice has been great and doesn’t need the armband to be a leader and Odegaard has been a very good captain. I know he has been of it this season but he is such a good player and can return to form. I saw someone say he will probably be phased out at the end of the season which I don’t agree with at all as I think he is a very important and crucial player
Anyone who is still trying to peddle an anti-Ødegaard agenda in the Year of our Lord two thousand and twenty three is an idiot so pure and true they should be dissected for study.
Anyone thinking Odegaard get's phased out at the end of the season isn't being serious. He has the armband because he has the confidence of the manager to communicate his ideas to the team, in the same way that Jorginho had the armband towards the end of last game.
Leadership comes in a variety of forms. We had "captain without the armband" Xhaka last year, and Ode seems very content with allowing guys who are naturally vocal the space to do what they do. English culture has an obsession with the captain as some kind of cultural ideal. The reality inside the club is likely very different.
