How hard it is really depends on what software you use and what compromise you're willing to make. If you're like many people and mostly use a browser and play games, it's probably as easy as:

  1. Install Linux - I recommend Linux Mint
  2. Install your preferred browser
  3. Install Steam
  4. Install Heroic if you use GOG or EGS
  5. Enjoy

You can install it next to Windows too, so you don't even need to give up anything.

But it does take some time, and I only recommend it if you have some reason to switch, like you use Linux for work stuff and want to get more familiar with it, or you're tired of the licensing costs and telemetry of Windows. You'll have to adjust, but there's not a lot to give up unless you're an artist who relies on Adobe stuff or something.

I am a student woth a 120 gb laptop which needs to run specific bio science software which fits my specific internship ATM. So except for privacy reasons (and wanting to become more familiar with linux) I dont have the option except if I spare some money to buy a bigger drive for dual boot.

I get what you mean but it isnts always easy.

Yup, needing something specific definitely throws a wrench into the plans. Maybe look at it once you're done with your internship.
