I don't think TPB is strictly recommended for anything anymore, I could be out of the loop on that.
I wouldn't deny or argue that. I was under the impression that it just had more pitfalls than other sources these days, which led to it no longer being the go-to source it once was.
Perfectly valid. I used to use TPB a lot back in the day but now I find pretty much everything I want on 1337x.

It's basically the wild west nowadays, totally unmoderated.
About two or so years ago somebody on Reddit was saying it's basically a honeypot for catching people torrenting. But I have nothing to back this up and possibly my memory isn't accurate either. I've just avoided it since then though.
I'm sorry, I'm not plugged in enough to give you the rundown. Certainly plenty of people still use it without issue but last time I tried, I could only access it through mirrors. I also vaguely recall them only offering magnet links when my setup requires .torrent files for reasons that aren't worth getting into because I expect they're weirdly specific to my setup.
