Hundreds of years later, they still have to do penance for having the temerity to not just revolt against the slave masters but to win. White Europeans have been making an example of them ever since.

The history of the Americas is a pretty sad story. Not humanity at its best.

Agreed. Between the Americans shunning the second republican government in the Western Hemisphere and UK and France (one supposedly the ideal liberal democracy in a time of monarchs, the other a freshly born republic themselves) you are absolutely right.
