I have a very strict notification policy on my phone. Only the most deserving apps (like text messaging) are allowed the privilege of sending me notifications. Most apps in my device are not allowed to speak to me unless spoken to first. They stay in their little spot in my app drawer, in forced deep sleep until I summon them. Then and only then are they allowed access to my attention.
I've actually had to turn off YouTube notifications because the thing never shuts up. It's always telling me about new uploads and it's like, I'll see them when I go on YouTube, I don't need to know about it right fucking now
Exactly the same for me.
Notifications are allowed only when they serve as a convenience mechanism to tell me something happened in my life that I want to know about and care about.
They are not allowed when they function purely as a free interrupt mechanism to allow a corporation to monetise my attention for their profit.
