Why does Lemmy use "@" instead of ":" like Matrix does? (self.fediverse)

matrix is #room:matrix.org and @username:matrix.org

why does lemmy use [email protected] or @[email protected] ? it looks like email.

i like the matrix version better

Personally I like the @ way more. You even read it as "at", which makes sense in this context. "Gerryflap at feddit.nl" instantly makes sense. It aligns with email, so it also makes it easier for newcomers.
